Report: Green Bay to play at Seattle in 2014 NFL regular season opener

We’ve known since season’s end that the Packers would get their first rematch with the Seahawks in Seattle since the “Fail Mary” game of 2012.

Now, we reportedly know when the clubs will meet.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers will travel to Seattle for the 2014 NFL regular-season opener on Thursday, September 4.

The game will be televised on NBC.

The matchup will be a major test for clubs right off the bat. The Packers have the task of solving one of the NFL’s most ferocious defenses. The defending-champion Seahawks, meanwhile, have to deal with a Packers club with a strong offense. And, as Packers fans surely would be happy to remind you, Green Bay had Seattle just about beaten in the regular season meeting two years ago, even after quarterback Aaron Rodgers was sacked eight times.

It’s about time these clubs met again in a game of consequence, and why not with the eyes of the league upon them in Week One?

It’ll be good to notch a win against the “raining” champs to start the season.

Sad part is the GB fans who acted like that game was the only reason Seattle made the playoffs that year . Surely one of you will say it … Haha never fails

  10. uwsptke says: Apr 23, 2014 7:22 PM

Probably the toughest matchup for both teams right off the bat.

None of the participants from the “Fail Mary” are with their teams any longer, MD Jennings and Golden Tate are both gone.

the packers will start the season with a losing record and end the season with a losing record.

Seahawks won’t see a tougher team all year.

With Golden Tate in Detroit and M.D. Jennings in Chicago who’s going to catch the ball? My money would be on Sam Shields since he likely won’t get blatantly shoved to the ground.

Unlike Elway, Rodgers can move and elude the D making plays on his feet. What has bothered me about the fail Mary game is that GB fans seem to think this was totally on the Refs, but reality is you can not give up 10 sacs and leave this type of play on the field and then hope to win it in the last second. Should have the Packers won the game, of course, that is what pushed the NFL to bring back the refs. But regardless, if GB wants to win this one, they need to protect Rodgers better then they did last time.

I was at a couple Broncos-Seahawks games, and if I remember rightly, Elway was plenty fast once he got flushed; that’s why he drove Seattle crazy.

    Old Horse-face was a stud

Nice way to start off the new season. I can already feel the adrenaline building! 😉

Since the NFL loves the Packers, I’m sure whoever is reffing the game will find a way to botch the rules in favor of the Packers. So much for integrity in this league.

Seattle is much better than they were two years ago during the Fail Mary game. Russell Wilson still had his training wheel on. Now he is recognized as one of the best in the league. Seattle’s defense has matured, as well. The additions of Avril and Bennett make the D lethal. With a healthy Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice this will not be close.

Short season for Aaron Rodgers this year.

  22. filthymcnasty1 says: Apr 23, 2014 8:05 PM

This is a great way to start the season, and a tremendous honor for both teams.

  23. realitycheckbaby says: Apr 23, 2014 8:16 PM

Told you it would be GB.

  24. timcast12 says: Apr 23, 2014 8:17 PM

Ayeeee! I called this! Let’s go Green Bay!!

  25. filthymcnastyi says: Apr 23, 2014 8:25 PM

This might have been a good matchup a few years ago for GB. But their window is closing…and fast!

  26. icebowler says: Apr 23, 2014 11:26 PM

One thing I’ve learned…never bet on games the first week of the season.

  27. gbpack50 says: Apr 24, 2014 2:52 PM

GB’s window is closing?? Wow, cannot wait for game! The little birds will falter this year. Lacy – rushing 145yds, Rodgers passing 325 in a 10 point win. Yes, I know little bird fans, it will be the officiating!

Revenge is a dish best served cold…
What better way for karma to rear it’s head than for the Packers to ruin the homecoming party for those cheating bastards. The Fail Mary game killed the NFL’s integrity, it would be nice to see things be brought back to order with Aaron Rodgers ripping apart the Seattle Defense, and the irony of Russell Wilson throwing a game losing interception as time expires, this time with the proper officials.
