The son of Bum Phillips will be working the draft this year in a place where “bum” has a very different meaning.

Three-time former NFL coach Wade Phillips said via Twitter that he’ll be working the upcoming selection process with SKY Sports in England.

Hope they can understand Texas English,” Phillips said.

Phillips has been adamant that the Texans should take quarterback Johnny Manziel with the first pick in the draft. As John McClain of the Houston Chronicle explained it last week on PFT Live, Phillips thinks Manziel could have the same impact on the Texans that Hall of Fame running back Earl Campbell had on the Oilers.

Phillips most recently served as interim head coach and defensive coordinator of the Texans.

It’s confusing that no other NFL team has hired Phillips. Here’s hoping the folks in England appreciate the wealth of knowledge and experience they’ll be enjoying when they hear what Phillips has to say.
