Falcons sign Bear Pascoe

The Falcons have been taking a look at some of the remaining veteran free agents still available on the open market and they signed one of them on Thursday.

The team announced that tight end Bear Pascoe has been added to the roster after he worked out for the team on Thursday. Linebacker Dan Connor, who was briefly Pascoe’s teammate with the Giants, has also worked out for Atlanta.

If Pascoe earns time with the Falcons during the 2014 season, it will be because of his blocking skills. There would seem to be an opening for such a player on the Falcons’ depth chart, which currently has Mickey Shuler and Andrew Szczerba behind presumptive starter Levine Toilolo.

The group could welcome another addition during the draft next week and/or when the team signs up undrafted free agents to round out the competition for snaps with Tony Gonzalez in a television studio.

  1. We did need a blocking tight end for goalline formations, now we don’t need to look tight end midway through this draft, we can focus more on linemen.

  2. Don’t laugh. He’s caught one more TD in an NFCCG than anyone on the Falcons.

  3. As a Giants fan this is no big deal. He is great for running in for a play or two, but has no business being on the field for more than 5 plays a game. Teams need playmakers. He’s a placeholder.

  4. Good luck Bear. NYG fans appreciated your efforts over the years despite your shortcomings. Nice h-back/ST player.

  5. I remember when Mike Singletary cut Pascoe because he struggled in training camp as a rookie. I was disappointed because I played against Bear Pascoe in high school when he was a QB and enjoyed watching him play TE while I was at Fresno State, so I really wanted to see him make the roster for my favorite NFL team. I wish Singletary would have been more patient with him as he transitioned from the WAC to the NFL. A few years later, a little salt was poured in that wound when Bear scored a TD against my Niners in the NFC Championship game.
