Colin Kaepernick calls hometown reception “a blessing”

Kaepernick

Since his name was attached to an investigation in Miami last month, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has kept a low profile.

But he stepped out at a prayer breakfast in his hometown and called it “a bad circumstance,” that has “changed my way of thinking.

“It’s been put out that I did something wrong,” Kaepernick said, via Ron Agostini of the Modesto Bee. “Even though it’s a bad circumstance, a bad situation, I feel like ultimately I’ve been blessed because it’s changed my way of thinking. It’s made me stronger. It’s made me look at things differently.”

Kaepernick received a standing ovation from the crowd at the Turlock Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, which is natural given his standing as the star quarterback. Other receptions haven’t been as warm since he and two other players were investigated in an incident involving a 25-year-old woman in Miami. No charges have been filed.

“Even this morning, this is a blessing,” Kaepernick said. “It makes me very happy to know that people are staying behind me the way they have.”

The 49ers have stood behind their quarterback throughout, though the incident has slowed the process of a new contract for him.
