Considering the Chargers’ Round One options

Kansas City Chiefs v San Diego Chargers Getty Images

After earning a playoff spot and winning a wild card game, the Chargers earned the 25th overall pick in next week’s draft. This is the latest San Diego has been slated to select in Round One since 2008, when the club took cornerback Antoine Cason at No. 27.

As we noted in the Chargers’ draft needs, cornerback could be a position the Chargers look to bolster in Round One, with outside linebacker another area that could be addressed at some point. The Chargers allowed more yards per play than any other AFC team a season ago, so adding more defensive playmaking ability is a must.

On the other hand, the Chargers do have some needs on offense, too, with the offensive line one area of note.

When the Chargers are on the clock with their first pick next week, what side of the ball should they address? Tell us in the comments and cast your votes.

This poll is so pointless. The Chargers positions of need are CB, DE, NT, OL, and WR. Take the best available/best fit, don’t “focus” on one side of the ball or the other.

I voted Offense only because of Offensive Line.

If Rivers isn’t kept upright, the Chargers only go as far as he does, which is the foundation of any team with a pocket passer.

Pass rush is a desperate need! Dee Ford?

  4. raiderapologist says: May 2, 2014 5:52 PM

That team needs a decent corner.

You guys only got 4 responses? Any Raider post gets well over 200 pops…Enquiring minds need to know what the Raiders are doing at all times. No one cares about a team that has no freakin rings!!!

Raiders still Kings of the AFC west…

I wouldn’t be surprised if a corner they really like is there around pick 15, they’ll trade up. Pass rush should be improved with Ingram being fully recovered and as well as Freeney, I’m very optimistic about these two. Then I’d take either the best DT or OT/OG but DT is probably more pressing at the moment. This is a huge draft for the Chargers. If they can add a few pieces to what’s already in place, we’ll certainty be the front runners of the AFC West…Manning is basically on a farewell touring (breaking records in the process), Alex Smith is not the answer and Charles won’t last that much longer, and the Raiders, well maybe once Brady retires, they might get lucky but until then they’re just a black hole of disparity

Kings of the AFC West really???? How about finish above .500 in the next decade. When the Raiders won there rings, nobody under 35 can even remember. Raider posts getting 200 comments, shows there’s 200 delusional costume wearing freaks who believe you might win more than your normal 4 to 6 wins. How about being a “decent” team before you run off at the mouth.

I’m sure Humboldt thinks they are 1 player away from jumping on the SB express. Choo Choo!

Sorry Pal, it’s not my fault, however, the ultimate NFL stat is SB rings…We have three and we have even won an AFC Championship this century. What have the Chokers done this century? Yes, exactly…Nothing!

YOU HAVE ZERO RINGS!!! – there is nothing you can do about it. it just has to eat you up knowing we have 3 rings and are the KINGS of the AFC west!

    Scoreboard Baby!

    1. Raiders- Team of the decades – 3 rings

    2. Donkeys – still can’t catch us – 2 rings

    3. Even the “little red scouts” have 1 ring…lol

    4. Chokers – this is the best part – ZERO RINGS! ZERO RINGS!! did you hear me? ZERO RINGS!!!

    LMFAO!!!

Oh yeah, don’t forget to sell your tickets when we come down to South Oakland.

The only reason, yes ONLY reason the turds would get 200 responses regarding the draft is because they are SO BAD that they need just about EVERYTHING.

With that said, how are those rings helping you now? Most teams could build on something like that. But the raiders quickly became a poorly drawn caricature of themselves. Only team in ALL of sports where their rings are meaningless.

You’re missing the point. If there are 200 comments it isn’t coming from 200 freaks. It’s 20 freaks and 180 haters. Nobody cares about the Chargers, so they don’t draw the comments. And rings are timeless. If the Chargers had even one, their fans wouldn’t dismiss it, no matter how far in the past it was. Even the Chiefs have a ring. It’s been over 40 years, and it’s been 20 years since they won a playoff game, but they were the best one year. Charger fans can’t say that.

If Nix or Barr fall to 25, I think you have to take them. Otherwise, it’s a relatively deep draft for CB, OL and WR/RET so I think you can just go BPA and load up on starter caliber players. Team Telesco has a plan and I’m looking forward to another productive draft with him at the helm.

  13. dalcow4 says: May 2, 2014 9:56 PM

Last year was the worst for Charger CBs I’ve seen in decades. If any good CB is there when they pick they have to grab him because they didn’t get a starter in free agency.

  14. sdboltaction says: May 2, 2014 10:00 PM

Oh jeez who cares how many rings any other teams have?

Every year is another damn year.

  15. Savage Lizard says: May 3, 2014 2:45 AM

The Raider fan jukebox only plays one song “look what we did a long time ago.” Once upon a time Rome was the greatest civilization on the planet, not so much these days.

Congratulations on those rings won THREE DECADES AGO, they have zero bearing on the current NFL and the Raiders prospects in 2014. Eleven years in a row without a winning season, including an NFL RECORD seven consecutive 11 loss seasons. NFL record means NOBODY else has ever had a stretch that bad. Nobody. Ever. Not the Chargers, not the Bengals, not the Cardinals, nobody. No team has ever lost that many games that many seasons in a row. Over the past decade the Raiders have lost two games to every one they have won.

  16. joetoronto says: May 3, 2014 6:18 AM

Nobody cares, the Chargers will always be ringless and hopeless.

    Choo choo!

You seen that new Foot Locker commercial lately?
    Barry, LT, Karl Malone
Or can only a loser appreciate it?

Hey Raider fans along with being a Charger fan I’m also a Univ. of Miami (FL) Football fan. So if you follow football you know they have a pretty successful history. 5 National Championships(4 of the 5 since the Raiders won there last SB) but for the better of a decade they’ve SUCKED (kind of like the Raiders)especially by UM standards. I don’t go around bragging about UM’s National Titles, still a huge fan watch all the games and go to a couple of year. I find MORONIC to brag about 30 years ago and down talk another team that has OWNED you for a decade. Be like me talking trash to a Virginia Tech fan. VT has never won a National Title and we have but they’ve OWNED us for a Decade, makes ZERO SENSE!
