Our long national nightmare is over.
Michael Vick has a number.
The Jets quarterback has officially been issued No. 8, according to the team’s official website.
Vick created the story himself by posting a photo on social media, then deleting it, making some wonder if he was going with 3 instead. It was only an issue in the first place because the guy he was brought in to back up, Geno Smith, wears his longtime number 7.
So now Vick is joining the ranks of Mark Brunell and Browning Nagle rather than Rick Mirer, and we can all rest a little easier.
And thank the NFL for the extra two weeks before the draft to get weighty matters such as this settled.
