Sherman, Seahawks still talking

Bobby Wagner, Richard Sherman AP

As the Seahawks prepare for the 2014 draft, they also prepare to lock up cornerback Richard Sherman long beyond 2014.

Per a league source, talks between the Seahawks and the start cornerback continue.  But there’s currently no deal.

Several reports have suggested that an agreement could be reached before the draft begins on Thursday.  According to the source, it’s still realistic that the deal will be finalized this week, but that based on the parties’ current positions it won’t be easy.

Sherman became the team’s focal point after recently signing safety Earl Thomas to a long-term deal.  The defending Super Bowl champions wisely have commenced the process of taking care of the guys who have helped the Seahawks climb the mountain — and who will aid significantly in their efforts to stay there.

    Sherman still talking?
That’s a surprise given that the guy never stops running his mouth. It will be news when he stops to listen.

The most overrated CB in the entire NFL

Sherman is nothing more than a product of the system.

The system: hold the receiver for 10 yards down the field because the referee rarely calls it and overplay the route while your safeties make up for it.

Not to mention he’s one of the only players who resulted to take PEDs and Adderol to win games.

So nevermind, he’s the perfect Seahawk.

Vikings and the other 30 dream of this cb on their team. Sorry ladies, the mouth is in Seattle for awhile. Ponder that poet boy!
    Go Hawks!

An agreement was done a while ago, they are just giving Earl Thomas his week in the spotlight. They already made it a point when Chancellor signed his deal to ensure he had his moment.

Sherman deal is as good as done. I expect to hear about it monday or tuesday.

No way Seattle is letting the best cornerback in the league get away from them.

Everyone seems to be so concerned about the ‘big paydays’ for the Seahawks – while completely ignoring the fact that the combination of Wilson/Sherman/Thomas will keep the Seahawks contending for years to come.

On the same note anyone concerned about the Seahawk’s long term financial issues need look no further than Percy Harvin’s contract – it is set up perfectly to be restructure to the benefit of both the team and Harvin after this upcoming season. The numbers are very friendly in that regard.

Lets give it up for these writers and analysts for being able to stretch the news out until this draft happens.

  11. donnymacjack says: May 3, 2014 4:24 PM

When all is said and done he will be the highest paid DB in the league. Both in contractual years and terms, and most importantly in guaranteed dollars. All well earned and deserved.

But that said, I still think the frosting on the deal would be to have an agreement for the Seahawks organization to fund the Richard Sherman Family Foundation – Blanket Coverage for something like 10 million. THAT would both show him the respect he wants AND make him put his money where is mouth is, which I fully believe he would do.

  12. thegreatgabbert says: May 3, 2014 4:38 PM

Seahawks haven’t been able to get a word in edgewise.

  13. natepalmer1 says: May 3, 2014 4:41 PM

  14. nomoreseasontix says: May 3, 2014 4:52 PM

Sherman covers one sideline and talks a lot.
I’m not sure he’s worth close to what he thinks he is.
I’m sure without Thomas he wouldn’t look nearly as good.

  15. 12thlegion says: May 3, 2014 5:01 PM

You can’t argue with stats and tape. He is the best CB in the NFL. Does he get beat? Yes. Does it happen often. HELL NO. The most INT’s with also being the least targeted. The ENTIRE Defense makes the machine go…but Sherman, like Kam, Earl, and B-Wagz, are the perfect pieces to hat machine. He’s worth it. He’s proved it. So anyone who says other wise is ignorant, deluded, or a forty-whiner.

  17. Largent#80 says: May 3, 2014 5:07 PM

All the Seahawks haters try to act like Sherman isn’t the best CB and Thomas isn’t the best S in the league. They just wish they were on their teams instead of the SB CHAMPS!

  18. shlort says: May 3, 2014 5:16 PM

Seattle will find themselves in a situation that a lot of other teams find themselves in these days. They have some talent on that team, but they work as a unit. They will over pay several players and that is all they will have. 80% of their cap spent on 5 or 6 guys and the rest of the talent will leave because they won’t play for a million per year in Seattle when some other team will pay the 5 million.

How many teams have superstars on them, yet the team is mediocre? Get ready for that in places like Seattle and SF in the next couple years.

  22. uglydingo says: May 3, 2014 6:00 PM

He deserves to be paid but you just know he will advise his agent to be easy to negotiate with and have modest expectations after the Earl Thomas contract. I can see them quickly agreeing to a lower amount for the good of the team(joke).
The Seattle GM will earn his money in this negotiation

  23. achillesofwooters says: May 3, 2014 6:05 PM

Anytime Pftpoet sounds bitter it must be good news for the Seahawks. Its bound to happen when you spend a lifetime as a fan of the Seahawks’ farm team. Without the Seahawks, where would Vikings players go to win a SB?

  24. abel1408 says: May 3, 2014 6:10 PM

There’s no deal because Seattle management knows more than anyone that Sherman isn’t the best DB in the league. He’s a product of the system. The REAL players that make that secondary are Kam and Earl Thomas. That’s why they got taken care of first.

Sherman is easier to replace than Earl or Kam.

Bet he won’t be the highest paid DB when it’s all said and done. If he is, it will BARELY be 100,000 over the next highest.

  25. 1phillyphan says: May 3, 2014 6:24 PM

He is on record for saying Money is respect..For a Standford grad..that’s pretty sad. I’m pretty sure lots of players respect his abilities while very few respect him

  26. bostonbadass says: May 3, 2014 6:42 PM

  27. ptfpoetlovestheseahawks says: May 3, 2014 6:48 PM

Proof is in the numbers. He has a direct action with outcomes of games. QBs dont throw his way. Last years NFC championship is a prime example. But when you do throw his way when the game is on the line………well you know the outcome.

    #GOHAWKS

  28. xxkerrixx says: May 3, 2014 7:15 PM

You can remove the word “Seattle” from the headline.

  29. abel1408 says: May 3, 2014 7:25 PM

Proof is in what numbers? DeAngelo Hall was right in what he said about Sherman. No one treats him like a shut down DB, that’s why they still throw at him. No one stays away from him. They stay away from Earl and Kam. You take away Kam and Earl and you’re left with exactly what everyone though Sherman was…a slow DB with average hands.

  30. dvdheg says: May 3, 2014 8:03 PM

  32. skinsforlife32 says: May 3, 2014 8:06 PM

  33. abel1408 says: May 3, 2014 8:21 PM

    No thanks. Keep Sherman.

Any team would rather have Earl and Kam because they make mediocre DBS like Sherman look elite.

    ——————

All that proves is that you’re as bad at math as D Hall. Who was the LEAST targeted DB in the NFL? Sherman. Fact. Who intercepted the most passes (1 of every 5 thrown his way)? Sherman again. Average # of passes thrown his way per game? 2. Average # of completions on those throws? 0.8. Imagine, if he had better than average hands he might have more INT’s than any DB in the league the last 3 seasons…oh wait, he did? Crap! D Hall only knows what it is to underachieve, which is why Sherman’s greatness is beyond his comprehension. Byron Maxwell > D Hall.

  36. abel1408 says: May 3, 2014 9:11 PM

Give Deangelo Hall Kam and Earl and let’s see what numbers he puts up. 4 INTS in one game without them.

Like I said, this contract will tell you EXACTLY how management TRULY sees Sherman. If he was as good as you Seahawk fans think his deal would already be done, and it would have been the first one taken care of. Out of the LOB, his is the LAST to get taken care of.

  37. rrthomasxyz says: May 3, 2014 9:13 PM

As the weeks go by, it becomes more evident that it is more about the $ for the individual and not LOB. When the Seahawks are willing to give him $12m/yr and he says no, does this really have to do with “respect?”

  38. abel1408 says: May 3, 2014 9:20 PM

Gee, they aren’t willing to make him the highest paid DB. Wonder why that is?!

Sherman should just be thankful that Kam and Earl got him the money Seattle is willing to offer. That would be the humble and classy thing to do.

But we all know that’s not Sherman’s style.

  39. billbrasky72 says: May 3, 2014 9:22 PM

That was hilarious when the Vikings 4th string receiver, Jarius Wright, torched Sherman repeatedly when they met last year. Sherman gets exposed when he tries to cover fast, shifty receivers. Only time I’ve seen him shut up.

  40. palatypus says: May 3, 2014 9:23 PM

If Richard Sherman played the Vikings for 16 games. He would have 64 interceptions.

    ———-

By that logic, Seattle views Kam in higher esteem than Earl Thomas, which hardly makes sense. They took care of Kam first because his contract would be the cheapest and easiest to get done. They took care of Earl next because he’s by far the most imporant piece of that defense. Sherm will definitely be expensive (probably too expensive) but the order they got to him doesn’t indicate a lack of respect. It was just logic.

  42. jshawaii22 says: May 3, 2014 10:01 PM

Seattle took care of Kam’s contract first because it was a 4 year contract and Earl’s was 5.

I love the PFT Poet and his band of lonely ‘boys from the North. Gives me a good laugh every time a ‘Hawks report comes out.

Wait for the deal so you can see how management truly feels about Sherman.

If he was that good and they valued him that much, deal would be done by now.

No doubt it was the only joy to be found by Vikings fans in a 41-20 pasting. Vikings fans are forced to enjoy the little victories because that’s all they ever have.

  45. jrebar88 says: May 3, 2014 11:02 PM

His contract and the contract for Wilson(mediocre) are going to ruin that team. LOL I love it. Two highly over rated players are about to eat up all their cap space.

  50. denverdude7 says: May 4, 2014 9:44 AM

Sherman is worth $20 million per year and Thomas is worth at least $18 million per year.

    Time to pay up Seachickens.

So much for that balanced team anymore.

Payback is coming in Super Bowl XLIX… GO BRONCOS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  51. libradad53 says: May 4, 2014 10:50 AM

His agent is his brother, Brandon. No experience with NFL contracts. Experience limited to local deals for endorsements, public autograph sessions and has developed a local reputation of being hard to deal with. In there lies the problem.

Easily, the most overrated idiot in football. Two things will not happen this year in pro football. Seattle will not make it past the first round of the playoffs, and this loud mouthed dimwit will blame it on someone else.

  55. jordanmill98 says: May 5, 2014 12:25 AM

He Is a good cornerback at some aspects of the game but others he is just average go on YouTube and search up Jarius wright embarrasses Richard Sherman then tell me how good he is against a 2nd year receiver go vikes

  56. 1seahawkfan says: May 5, 2014 7:02 PM

I love it when all the other team fans spend so much time reading about our players. Shouldn’t you all be spending more time reading about your own players-oh that’s right- no one is talking about them. How about we ask Richard to shut his mouth when he can’t back it up until then he can talk all he wants-even Obama says so. Go Seahawks
