When some NFL players get arrested, the team sends out the traditional and perfunctory “gathering information” statement.
The Bills actually sent one out in the wake of Marcell Dareus’ arrest on felony synthetic marijuana charges which might describe how they actually feel.
“We are, obviously, disappointed with this latest development involving Marcell Dareus,” General Manager Doug Whaley said, via Mike Rodak of ESPN.com. “We will be in contact with the league regarding the situation and continue to offer support and assistance to Marcell.”
The fact that Dareus was less than two weeks removed from having his 2015 option picked up is reason enough for that feeling.
But that $8.06 million option is only fully guaranteed for injury until the start of the 2015 league year.
That gives them some flexibility, while they let the legal system run its course, and wait to see if the NFL suspends him for violating the substance abuse policy.
The Bills seemed to have some issue with Dareus late last season, and this incident is only going to make them think carefully about their next moves with the former first-rounder.
