Brandin Cooks thinks the Jets want to draft him

Brandin Cooks AP

Oregon State’s Brandin Cooks has spent time with the Jets’ brass and gotten a very good vibe.

Cooks, who won the Biletnikoff Award as the best receiver in college football last season, told the New York Post that he believes the Jets are hoping he’s still on the board so they can take him at No. 18.

“We’ve been talking a lot on and off,” Cooks said. “I took a visit. I think the visit went great. It’s one of those things. I feel like they’re pushing for me, but who knows?”

Cooks said he has seen what the Jets do on offense and feels like he would be the perfect addition to a receiving corps that has also added Eric Decker in free agency.

“It’s an amazing fit,” Cooks said. “I feel like they’re on the rise. They’re doing great things. I just feel like they need to add one more thing to their package. I feel like if they had a speed receiver they’d be complete. We’ll see.”

There’s expected to be a run on receivers in the first round tomorrow night, with Sammy Watkins of Clemson and Mike Evans of Texas A&M sure to be taken before the Jets are on the clock, and Odell Beckham Jr. of LSU likely gone as well. Cooks would be next on the receiver list, and if he’s right about how the Jets view him, he’ll be the choice.

Another option for the Browns who could conceivably have 3 – 1st round picks when it is all said and done…

can he catch ground balls like Stephen Hill….?

Don’t think so….they are going to draft a punter!
Honestly I think they want Ebron.

The Jets need so much help that they want to draft EVERYONE!!

  7. jetsfaninindy says: May 7, 2014 9:20 AM

Cooks can be up a pretty good player. Though, I think the Jets prefer Ebron or Dennard at #18.

That’s funny a bills fan saying the jets need help.

All these posts knocking the Jets are getting old. If they can capitalize on the draft, it’s quite clear this is a team on the rise.

Are the Buffalo Bills in the NFL or CFl?

  14. auraandmystique says: May 7, 2014 9:47 AM

A Bills fan is critiquing the Jets’ needs? Dude, your team hasn’t had a winning record since 2004! Maybe worry about your own team’s needs.

  15. jr325 says: May 7, 2014 9:51 AM

From reading some of these comments, you would think the Jets are the Jaguars or the Browns or the worst team in NFL history jeez

“Cooks said he has seen what the Jets do on offense and feels like he would be the perfect addition”

I’m a Jets fan and I’ve seen them play O….Does that mean he can fit into not catching the ball, running back to the huddle after the QB is sacked, and generally getting beat play after play?

    That’s the Jets offense.

  17. bennyb82 says: May 7, 2014 10:04 AM

I bet the Jets surprise a lot of people this year. Not a Jets fan but I like the moves they’ve made.

brandin cooks was 2 years old the last time the bills won a playoff game.

  21. Waxxx4321 says: May 7, 2014 10:14 AM

The Jets dont draft anybody but losers anyway so lets not jinx it any worse than it already is.

  22. wrdtoyrmama says: May 7, 2014 10:28 AM

Jets have spent a lot on offense in FA.

I’d guess the defense gets the call here.
Dennard would be fine. Physical, press corner. Rex can coach up 2 young guys at cb.

There’s still TE/OG/WR talent later for the Jets.

  24. dynaco says: May 7, 2014 10:40 AM

Cooks wouldn’t be my first choice, but it would be fun to watch Revis grab his hamie’s twice a year.

  25. agcooney108 says: May 7, 2014 10:43 AM

wouldn’t be suprised if the jets took pryor or shazier in the 1st. we need a upgrade on strong safety, also the jets have never properly replaced the bart scott role. i truly think this WR/CB in the first round is all smokescreen for others teams to reach, the talent stretches so deep in this draft, that it’s worth to take a jordan matthews and/or a pierre desir in the 2nd and/or third, hope i’m right. happy almost draft day!

  26. arrow43050 says: May 7, 2014 10:55 AM

@ ttommytom His job right now is to get drafted as high as possible. If that means saying that the Jets want him so some other team trades up in front of them or to trade spots with the Jets themselves then that’s fine for him to try to do. He is right now trying to do what is best for him.

Last relevant period for the jests was 1969…. chew on that jet fans.

At least the bills got to 4 super bowls. That puts them 3rd in the division. True, they lost them all but that fact still beats the one-and-done jets franchise campaign.

  28. campcouch says: May 7, 2014 11:38 AM

every player that talks to a team says the same thing. they took me to dinner and showed me the practice facility so I think they want me.

  29. pftfan says: May 7, 2014 11:41 AM

I love all these Jets-bashing comments in every single Jets article.

Raise your hand if you’re a fan of one of the SEVENTEEN teams with a worse record than the Jets last season.

  30. jetsarestacked says: May 7, 2014 11:45 AM

winning one superbowl > never winning a superbowl >>>>>> losing 4 in a row

i think i would have offed myself if i was a bills fan during that period/

  33. joeytorontosucks says: May 7, 2014 12:22 PM

I think the Jets might be trying to get on of the corners they like to drop to them.. Just a thought

  34. simplegodfather says: May 7, 2014 12:23 PM

I think its so funny, that Bill Fans think they better than Jets.. Hey, how that QB Manny working out for ya? You guys said he was the STEAL of the draft, and yet Geno plays better than Manny… Keep up creating fabrications stories as you always dream to be, but won’t ever comes into reality, sad.

  35. steves11 says: May 7, 2014 12:26 PM

The Jets winning anything more than a few games will be as surprising as Mike Vick lasting as the starter for a full 16 game season.

  36. cluelessdufus says: May 7, 2014 12:48 PM

I think Cooks is going to be a great player. Like Tavon Austin, Cooks can do more than just catch, very versatile player who probably fit with most teams, but I think the Jets need a #1 reciever that has the size to play outside. To me, Odell Beckham Jr. has the size and potential to be a #1, with luck he could be there. Again, this my opinion and I’m not a scout so my believe has no credibility.

  37. clelek05 says: May 7, 2014 1:06 PM

He’d fit right in. Blubbering already! Geez man. I don’t think saying these things helps your draft status. Just shut your mouth and let it play out. Jets are the worst possible place anyone can end up.

  38. michaele11111 says: May 8, 2014 5:15 PM

Idzik gave him one crisp Benjamin to pass around that BS. Cooks thought it was a lot of money.
