Jadeveon Clowney doesn’t believe Houston will pass on him at No. 1

South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney will likely know by this time tomorrow night which team has selected him the first round of the NFL Draft. However, he already believes he has a pretty good idea of where he’ll be selected Thursday night.

According to Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle, Clowney thinks he’ll be a member of the Houston Texans.

“I don’t think they’re going to pass (on me),” Clowney said of the Texans.

Clowney has long been projected as a potential No. 1 overall selection in the 2014 draft. However, concerns about his work ethic and motor have overshadowed his supreme talent at times during the lengthy lead up to the draft.

Much like Peyton Manning telling the Indianapolis Colts they would regret passing on him with the first pick in the 1998 NFL Draft, Clowney also said he’d be motivated to prove the Texans wrong should they elect to go elsewhere with the top pick.

“If I have to (go) No. 2, I’m going to be upset. I’m going to have to do something about it,” Clowney said.

Regardless, Clowney is likely to be a Top 5 pick, at worst, when the draft finally gets underway at 8 p.m. ET. Thursday night.

“If I have to (go) No. 2, I’m going to be upset. I’m going to have to do something about it,” Clowney said. — So if he is drafted #1, will he still have that chip on his shoulder?

Clowney to Texans, one of the OT’s to the Rams, Bortles to Jax, Manziel to Cleveland, Watkins to Oak…there, you heard my 1st 5 picks

I have never had such a bad feeling going into a draft as a Texans fan.

McNair is going to F this all up.

    Over Hyped

Will be wasted in Romeo Crennels defense along with JJ Watt

Bad fit for HOUs 3 4. They are making a huge mistake not taking Mack.

  12. bworacle says: May 7, 2014 11:51 PM

Hope he doesn’t mind playing for a losing team without a quarterback.

  13. nobreak1269 says: May 7, 2014 11:52 PM

    Clowney is a clown.

  14. seahawkfanfrom1970s says: May 7, 2014 11:57 PM

As a Seahawk fan, I HOPE the Texans take him.
I sure would hate to see Clowney fall to the Rams – cursed be the name of Daniel Snyder.

Can’t pass on his potential. Dude runs a 4.5 he’ll be able to convert to outside linebacker just fine. Him and JJ make it happen.

Will be biggest bust of draft.

  17. curt2288 says: May 8, 2014 12:04 AM

I hope they pass on him guys a turd

  18. bigwinintx says: May 8, 2014 12:18 AM

Maybe he should have thought about that when he was taking plays off during his college career.

Don’t blame the critics for calling you “lazy”, blame your own work ethic.

Call me kooky, but I’d take Mack over this guy…

  22. taintedsaints2009 says: May 8, 2014 12:40 AM

i hope they called holding on that Badger in the picture

  23. moneymike23 says: May 8, 2014 12:45 AM

Call me crazy but I would be shocked if they pass on a QB with the no.1 pick. This team is loaded with plenty of talent and arguably biggest need is qb. Who gives them the best chance to win Clowney and Ryan Fitzpatrick as a starter or Teddy BridgewAter???

Yes they are unproven but I would take manziel or BridgewAter over Fitzpatrick or case Keenum. Despite all the hype on Clowney I really believe they will/have to take a Qb.

Get’em JC. Sounds like he’s throwing down the gauntlet, but in a humorous way. Have fun, kid. In a couple of weeks some DL coach will be screaming at you. Enjoy!

  25. hellogoodbye3005 says: May 8, 2014 1:56 AM

Another entitled kid… just what the NFL needs.

  26. bornahawker says: May 8, 2014 1:57 AM

Only for a slew of picks from Atlanta.

  27. campcouch says: May 8, 2014 1:59 AM

    What happens if they do?

  28. psly2124 says: May 8, 2014 2:22 AM

He’s going to do something about it, like what practice or play with effort. Doubt it. Houston will regret drafting him, he will get fat and lazy. Maybe he’ll channel his inner Haynesworth or rolando mcclain. That will fix the texans for not drafting you.

  29. jaygruntboston says: May 8, 2014 3:20 AM

They should because he passed over playing a whole year: 3 sacks in 12 games 2013!

  30. hisandherpes says: May 8, 2014 6:38 AM

Having to go number 2 is nothing to be upset about unless you’re stuck in traffic or something.

  31. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: May 8, 2014 7:42 AM

With their type of 3-4 defense, I don’t see how Clowney is a great fit for the Texans. I think the Texans would prefer to trade down a bit and hope they don’t play against Clowney very often.

  32. catfish252 says: May 8, 2014 8:10 AM

Texans please pass him up just so we can see him get upset watch what he is going to do about it. I hope he means at the actual draft in Radio City Music Hall, love to see a brawl at the draft. Clowney body slams Goodell.

  33. teal379 says: May 8, 2014 8:11 AM

The ONLY reason a team passes on him at #1 or even #2 is because of his effort in the last season of college ball.

“If I have to (go) No. 2, I’m going to be upset. I’m going to have to do something about it,” Clowney said.

The time to do something about that was last October, not now.

Right or wrong – that’s the reason you’ll drop (if you do) and you can blame what YOU did, not the Texans, for the reason you’re not #1 over all.

Blaming everyone else is really just an extension of the reason teams might pass on you.

  34. duck99 says: May 8, 2014 8:41 AM

Clowney will be out of the league in 5 years. He better save his money.

  35. coldwater32301 says: May 8, 2014 10:22 AM

Texans would be a fool to pass on Clowney…Pound for pound the best player in the draft… now how would they maximize his ability is the true question…Indeed…

  36. jagsfan2012 says: May 8, 2014 10:45 AM

Damn if you do, damn if you don’t. If they draft Clowney and pass on Manziel and Clowney is a bust and Manziel is a success, they’re busted. If they pick Manziel and he’s a bust and Clowney is the next LT, then you’re a bust.
