Report: Davin Joseph visits Patriots

The New England Patriots are taking a look at a former Pro Bowl lineman less than a week before the start of the NFL Draft.

According to Field Yates and Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com, the Patriots hosted former Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Davin Joseph for a visit.

Joseph started 99 games in seven seasons with the Buccaneers and was named to two Pro Bowls. However, a knee injury forced Joseph to miss the entire 2012 season and his play never returned to the same level last season. The Buccaneers released Joseph in March.

Joseph would bring a veteran presence, depth and competition to the Patriots offensive line.

  1. If DJ signed with New England, he might supplant Connolly — the only semi-weak OL on that line up there.

  2. I’m curious as to why the Patriots ( along with the Broncos ), haven’t pursued OL Travelle Wharton, a 2013 Top 5 graded guard per PFF and clearly the best remaining OL in free agency…..particularly if they are seeking productivity AND a veteran presence on & off the field.

  3. This is why guys have to get paid when they can, even if it’s using tactics that aren’t popular with fans. I’d like to see the Chiefs take a look, but sounds like the guy is done.

  4. if we still had Dante i’d say we maybe could get this man back to Pro Bowl status… now, not so sure. still we need the depth

I guess you didnt watch much of the center play last year, it was awful.

Signing Joseph and taking a top rated C early in the draft would go a long way towards improving the Patriots interior line play.
