Falcons upgrade offensive line with Jake Matthews

The Falcons weren’t able to make the bold move they are accustomed to making.

And they might be better off for not having to.

The Falcons improved their offense with the sixth pick in the draft, taking Texas A&M tackle Jake Matthews.

The Falcons got a boost when the Jaguars used the third pick on the draft on quarterback Blake Bortles, and the Bills traded into the fourth spot to take wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

That gave them the opportunity to get the tackle they needed, after using their early free agency dollars on defensive line reinforcements.

They might have liked to have gotten a pass-rusher like Jadeveon Clowney or Khalil Mack, but pass protection for Matt Ryan was an equivalent need.

The best part is, they still have picks in the future, and have landed an upgrade for their offense.
