Ha Ha Clinton-Dix begging the Eagles to come get him

NFL Draft Football AP

The Eagles obviously like what they’ve seen from Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

But he apparently liked what he saw during his official visit to beg them to do what they have to do to draft him.

According to Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com, Clinton-Dix texted Eagles director of player personnel Ed Marynowitz, a former Alabama football recruiter.

“He sent me an article and I was on the front of it, about going to Philly and what not,” Clinton-Dix said. “I told him to tell them to come get me, please. Whatever it takes.”

The problem is, the Eagles, picking 22nd, might not be able to get to the player who would fill one of their biggest needs.

“When I left there I felt like they felt like they might need to draft up to get me,” he said.

Previously the Eagles were linked to moves up for a receiver (or even a certain quarterback), but Clinton-Dix might fill the biggest need they have.

Safety is not a need for us, we have a super bowl starter in Malcolm Jenkins who is versatile, 26, and refer to mockdraftable for his spider graph which shows he is very athletic. Our other safety position has competition in Nate Allen who is a solid starter in this league, at worst and a promising rookie in Earl Wolff who is very athletic and showed very good promise as a rookie. Clinton-Dix is a nun athletic player who doesn’t possess elite instincts and therefore is not an attractive option to Chip Kelly. Our first pick will be 1) Barr 2) WR we may possibly select Mosley if he’s still there or one of the top CBs if they’re still there.

i agree with addressing the safety position in round 1. mostly because i believe chip kellys offense is going to put points on the board, even with jackson gone

or just get brandon cooks and offense is stacked

  3. johnlongdongsilver says: May 8, 2014 7:12 AM

Ideally we will select 1) Barr 2) Benjamin/ Robinson 3) Phillip Gaines 4) OG – Thomas, Trai Turner 5) Big Dan McCullers 7) Jeff Janis UDFA) Lyerla

HaHa knows a team on the rise when he sees one. Smart kid.

I agree, though, this may be too rich for the Eagles’ blood.

    Please do this Eagles….PLEASE!

  6. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: May 8, 2014 7:48 AM

Safety may be a need for the Eagles but I think they will get the last laugh and not pick Ha Ha.

  8. jafo1265 says: May 8, 2014 7:51 AM

So he is saying that he doesn’t want to play for any team picking 1-21? Does he think he’s a Manning?

  9. wiztopher says: May 8, 2014 8:00 AM

    Yes please.

  10. alexb1234 says: May 8, 2014 8:00 AM

I’m really trying but I can’t take any player seriously with the name Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (I know his real name is Ha’Sean but that doesn’t make it better)….

what happened to the real football names like Pounds or Means?

  11. udkidd says: May 8, 2014 8:01 AM

Give up your 1st, 2nd and another player for him. Its a feasible trade and could work for another team too. Talk to the Rams for #13.

  12. hotep999 says: May 8, 2014 8:02 AM

Stay put.. let him fall to you.. type of thing happens every year.

  13. gnorules says: May 8, 2014 8:11 AM

Three days ago it was Odell Beckham, Two days ago it was Manzel, now it’s Clinton-Dix. I would like this pick, but I think he’s long gone before 22 rolls around. Gotta love all the smoke screens.

  14. birdzflyinhigh says: May 8, 2014 8:12 AM

Please come up and get him, not a wr! We don’t need a wr, we have desean Jackson. Oh wait……

  15. allidoiswin55 says: May 8, 2014 8:24 AM

Stupid beg a good defense to draft you ,
So you don’t have to be a teams saving grace . You still might fall that far but that’s pushing it … You should be begging the niners to draft you and move up .. Not sure you fit but still who begs the eagles . Besides of course offensive players who will make millions upon millions bc or chip Kelly and his killer offensive scheme. …

  16. 2blingluvinit says: May 8, 2014 8:29 AM

From a fans point of view. I think this whole draft event is turning into a circus. We now have draft prospects who don’t want to go to one team and others who are begging to be drafted by a certain team. Pretty sad state of the NFL if you ask me.

  18. phillyguyindc says: May 8, 2014 8:38 AM

Well if your article yesterday about not have an elite safety in this years draft is accurate, might as well wait until the second round. I agree that it is a huge need, but I wouldn’t trade up for him. If he falls to them in the first they’ll probably take him.

Either way I think they go with some combination of LB/WR/S with their first three picks.

  19. realskipbayless says: May 8, 2014 8:38 AM

I wouldn’t want to play for the ravens either.

  20. justintuckrule says: May 8, 2014 8:51 AM

Superbowl is guaranteed … everyone wants to be part of Dream Team 2014.

  25. eaglesw00t says: May 8, 2014 9:14 AM

Ha Ha is one of a few players I would be willing to trade up that many spots to get. And Safety is a glaring need.

Moreso than WR. And if the guy wants to play for the Eagles, make it happen Howie!

  26. hodous says: May 8, 2014 9:20 AM

Swap your first and give up your second and fourth and trade with Chicago.

  27. fmaxfireflamespitter says: May 8, 2014 9:25 AM

Wow…Philadelphians are beaming with glee. However, he’ll probably be gone before that around the Rams second 1st rounder. I’m pretty sure every stadium wants the chance to play Nelson Muntz saying “Ha Ha” after every big hit.

If gone, I believe the Eagles will be left to pick between an OLB like Kony Ealy or Dee Ford, or a WR like Brandin Cooks or Marquise Lee. Look out for Louis Nix III though. Not mentioned but we need a true NT for the 3-4, and a starting d-line of Cox, Nix, and Logan gives us a D reminiscent of New England circa 2000′s with “Baby Wilfork”.

  28. claymath52 says: May 8, 2014 9:25 AM

He wouldn’t get past the Packers at 21….

Colt Lyerla will not be an UDFA. Problems aside he is talented, and this is the NFL…a team will take a shot on him in the 4th or 5th.

  31. DeanteLongD says: May 8, 2014 9:50 AM

Ghost of 34, you’re wrong, he’s a cocaine user who walked away from his team. Let’s get real, most teams won’t have him on their board because they would consider him undraftable.

  32. Youknowimright says: May 8, 2014 10:00 AM

Recent alabama d-backs have been a disaster in the NFL. Saban’s system has made them all better than they are. Please draft him Philly.

  33. rpiotr01 says: May 8, 2014 10:05 AM

They may not need to trade up for him. S class is not top heavy. Both Ha Ha and Pryor may well carry second round grades in other years, teams may feel like they’re reaches in the upper/mid first. Just see what happens tonight, don’t reach.

  34. DeanteLongD says: May 8, 2014 10:24 AM

Read the writing on the wall. Howie Roseman has said so many times that he believes in plugging all holes on a roster so that he can enter the draft without any needs that would dictate his drafting. The team signed Jenkins and resigned Allen with the intention of them being starters with competition. Howie has also said this year’s class of safeties sucks. This team will take BPA and it won’t be reaching for an over valued safety just because it’s all this years class has to offer, get a clue people.

  35. cbs1971 says: May 8, 2014 10:32 AM

Honestly, I would be happy with him or Pryor.

  36. Remember Brian Brohm says: May 8, 2014 12:49 PM

That’s because he’s scared to death that the Packers might draft him. If that happens, he’ll change his name to Boo Hoo.

  37. greymares says: May 8, 2014 1:01 PM

What could the Eagles actually trade up with ? they have 6 picks total.

  38. sumkat says: May 8, 2014 2:23 PM

Who cares that the Eagles said they think the safety class isn’t strong? If anything, that make me think it’s more likely that the Eagles are looking at a safety, not less.

I’m not a fan of the idea of trading up this year. Anyone that I think is ready to make a big impact from day 1, is going to go too high to make the trade viable. I think it’s more likely if someone they want doesn’t drop, they trade down a few spots (late 20′s or 30′s) and try to grab Nix while adding a pick. But if Dix, Pryor, Barr, one of the top corners, or a WR like Cook or Lee are on the board, they take them. I highly doubt they trade up for any of them.

I can say almost for certain they won’t be trading multiple picks when they only have 6. So you people thinking they are going to trade their 2nd and 4th to move up 5 or 6 spots, keep dreaming

  39. distracted9 says: May 8, 2014 3:02 PM

I would love to have Ha Ha but only at 22.. This draft is way too strong to give up multiple picks especially since we only have 6. I’m holding with Ha Ha in one and Lattimer in 2.. at least get Lattimer, he will be an absolute stud WR in this league.

  40. oldbyrd says: May 8, 2014 5:54 PM

If The Eagles can get a legit pass rusher this improves them immediately. Those that know football, know that safety position is better than adequate. Need is for a player to come in and make an immediate impact. LB from UCLA would be my first choice.
