They’ve been paraded around, herded through inspections, and tonight, they’ll be divvied up to their new owners for branding.
While the NFL Draft is big business, it also feels a little like a cattle auction to those on the hoof.
“It’s definitely crazy,” LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. said, via Dom Consentino of NJ.com. "[These teams] are investing so much in you that they want to make sure everything’s right.
“At some point in time, and I talk to other [draft prospects], and they feel like a piece of meat, to an extent. You’re getting poked and prodded at and pulled on. It’s not easy all the time. I flew around, one week, five days in a row. It’s just hard for you to be able to get your workouts in. The biggest part is just being able to stay healthy and stay active throughout the whole process.”
Of course, they’ll be well-compensated meat after tonight, but the process can become a grind on the players involved, some of whom are barely old enough to be considered veal.
