Rams add Aaron Donald to their first-round haul

Aaron Donald AP

The Rams made Greg Robinson the first offensive tackle selected in the 2014 NFL Draft with the second pick and they made Aaron Donald the first defensive tackle off the board with the 13th pick.

Donald is an explosive player off the line who made a lot of plays for Pittsburgh during his collegiate career to come into the offseason as a top prospect. His stock continued to rise after a strong showing at the Senior Bowl and outstanding combine workouts before the elevator deposited him at lucky No. 13.

He’ll plug into the center of a line that already creates a lot of havoc on the outside with defensive ends Robert Quinn and Chris Long. Donald could be a third prong in that attack that would have offensive coordinators picking their poison on every pass play if Donald develops into the player many believe he can be.

The NFC West had three teams that won at least 10 games last season. With Robinson and Donald landing in St. Louis, the division just got even more interesting.

The RGIII trade is an indefensible disaster. The Rams dyansty was built by the Redskins.

First step looks slow to me. Not hating either.

Good picks so far but man…the Rams have a long way to go to compete in the NFC West.

The media is squirming over Johnny Tebow.

    I’m loving it.

Damn … Wish I could rip the Rams but these look like 2 damn good picks to me. NFCW is going to be dominant for awhile!

Rams might have the best pass rush in the league.

With Brockers already there and solid play this year, I don’t see this as a need. Not sure how to feel…

I hope the Bucs draft Luke Skywalker later in the draft or that Death Star defense in Week 2 in Tampa will kill McKown.

    Final score 6-5.

I wouldn’t let mayock take my trash cans to the curb!

Arguably the best OT and the best DT in the draft. The Rams got good value out of their two picks.

This guy will get run over by SF and Seattle. We’re looking at 4-12 and the 11th yr in a row of missing playoffs. I can hardly wait.

Gotta be exciting for Rams fans. Quinn, Long, Brockers and now Donald? Unstoppable. The NFC West is going to be fun to watch if you like defense.

The Rams are burdened with the most over-rated coach in the NFL. They aren’t winning a thing.

to anyone who thinks the rams did not go after the run first tackle just watch next year stacy will run for 1500+ yards and to contain the seahawks (wilson) and niners (kapernick) you need consistent pressure up the middle check that box with donald now where do they run left or right its quinn or long pick your poison this is now the best DL in the NFL!! i would love to see the rams add a carlos hyde or another punishing runner in round 2-3 go rams!!

we will see how this goes, great picks.. but the WR position was a NEED by the Rams.. Who is in FA as a WR? I mean that’s what it’s coming down to right now..

  21. redbirdnation23 says: May 8, 2014 11:13 PM

But let me guess, that’s probably why they signed TJ Moe thinking he would really add to the WR position.. Dude just came off a torn achilles.. If they drafted the WR out of Saginaw Valley State, that would be LEGIT though..

As a Seahawks fan, I have to admit that with Quinn and Long at end with Donald and Brockers inside is the best D-line in the NFL. I had a sense of dread about this when the Rams went on the clock at #12. We’re totally screwed unless we fix the offensive line. Russell is going to get pounded when we play the Rams unless the line gets shored up. He can’t run away from all these guys- Quinn, Long, and Donald are really quick. At least one guard and a RT are in order.

Another great pick. Front 4 could be the best in football not to mention Lauranitis and Ogletree right behind them!

If Defense wins championships, the league better watch out. Go Rams!
