The Baltimore Ravens have been very fond of Alabama defensive players during Ozzie Newsome’s tenure as general manager.
Baltimore once again went back to the Alabama well and selected linebacker C.J. Mosley with the 17th overall pick in the draft.
Linebacker may not have been the biggest need for the Ravens but ultimately Baltimore decided Mosley was their guy. The Ravens continue to reload during the draft on the defensive side of the football. Newsome has selected Alabama defensive tackle Terrance Cody and linebacker Courtney Upshaw in recent seasons. In addition, the Ravens traded for troubled linebacker Rolando McClain, who remains on the reserve/retired list.
The Ravens pick had long been thought as a possible target for the San Francisco 49ers to trade up with a package of some of their 11 draft picks due to the relationship of head coaches John and Jim Harbaugh. Instead, the Ravens decided Mosley was the guy they had to have and turned in their selection.
With the top four offensive tackles off the board, the Ravens could have elected to address their secondary as well. Darqueze Dennard, Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix and Calvin Pryor all were available to Baltimore. Instead, they once again elect to go with a linebacker in the draft.
