Eagles trade up with Titans for Vanderbilt WR Jordan Matthews

The Eagles moved up 12 spots in Round Two to draft a wide receiver, trading their second-round pick (No. 54) and a fourth-round selection (No. 122) to the Titans to take Vanderbilt’s Jordan Matthews No. 42 overall on Friday.

Matthews (6-3, 212) hauled in 112 passes for 1,477 yards and seven scores for the Commodores in 2013. He joins an Eagles receiving corps featuring Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper.

The Eagles released DeSean Jackson, their top receiver from a season ago, in late March.

The Eagles are scheduled to have two more picks on Friday — a pair of third-round selections (Nos. 83 and 86).

Matthews was the second wide receiver selected in Round Two. Three picks earlier, the Jaguars took USC’s Marqise Lee.

I don’t know if I like this pick. He is above average in height, weight, arm length and hand size. He is average is average in every other metric and below average in agility and acceleration. I don’t see anything that stands out with this player.

    Great pick.

Tough guy, and you can’t coach massive hands.

What am I missing that he lasted until 2nd round?
6-2″, 210, 4.40-40, huge hands, set sec records for receiving, all American 2 years in a row.
Seriously, why is he not rated higher?

Absolutely loved watching this guy play at Vandy. Seems like it’s always a crapshoot if it will translate to the NFL level for a WR, but I’m rooting for him. Really good player, and a really good kid.

This guy in the Eagles’ system could be sick!

I don’t like it at all. The Eagles blew it in the first round and traded up for a nobody from Vandy. There is no Rice in the NFL. Awful!

Remember Bruce Irvin 12th overall by Seattle. 2 down guy that’s very productive. Eagles needed pass rush. Matthews will be solid with the rest of the weapons all over 6’1″ with McCoy and sproles. If you think the eagles are going to be weak, you’re dillusional. Go philly!
