Peyton Manning gets another weapon in Cody Latimer

Just what the Broncos needed: Another weapon in the passing game.

Cody Latimer, a wide receiver from Indiana, was taken by the Broncos in the second round, with the 56th overall pick. He’ll be Peyton Manning’s newest target.

“I get to go to a great organization with a great quarterback, and that’s what I wanted,” Latimer said on NFL Network. “It was worth the wait.”

In Denver, Latimer joins a receiving corps that also includes Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker and Emmanuel Sanders, plus tight end Julius Thomas. Despite losing Eric Decker in free agency, the Broncos could have every bit as good a passing game in 2014 as they had in 2013, when Manning broke the NFL records for passing yards and passing touchdowns in a season.

And Latimer thinks the Broncos will be an even better team. Asked about getting back to the Super Bowl, Latimer said, “We’re gonna win it.”

Andy Dalton’s former #2 wide receiver andre caldwell (who can’t even get on the field in Denver due to their wide receiver corps being so loaded) is gonna be out of a job.

They will have an incredible regular season and then the fabric of the universe will not be torn asunder when a Manning lead playoff team loses like they always do.

Good depth but they need lineman

  4. nflpropickemking says: May 9, 2014 9:12 PM

Does it really matter if the choker has any more weapons?

  5. orivar says: May 9, 2014 9:14 PM

All this offensive focus is going to bite them.

  6. chargersdiehard says: May 9, 2014 9:14 PM

What if Manning were to go down to injury who will be throwing to the loaded wr corps then?

Manning is a great regular season QB – and it ends there

  8. thestrategyexpert says: May 9, 2014 9:15 PM

He’s annoyingly confident and convincing the way he talks about them winning it!

I think if he pans out this could be the end to Wes welker after this year. I hope not.. But honestly I do not know a lot about this kid.

Horrible front office….you can’t win if you’re a one sided team

  12. scw1993 says: May 9, 2014 9:41 PM

What difference does it make….they could sign the Good Lord himself, and megahead will still choke. Loading up the team, but for what reason. Regular season stats awards don’t matter.

    Haters gonna hate.

  14. Dan Anderson says: May 9, 2014 9:55 PM

Seems like a decent receiver, but moving up 8 spots and giving up a 5th this year and a 4th next year (oh yah, we get an extra 7th, yawn)…I don’t get it. He would have been there if we stayed put.

It’s funny that people think Denver hasn’t addressed the defense. I could have sworn they signed a solid safety and corner in free agency then added a promising corner in the first round. As a bronco fan I was hoping to see an inside backer or a lineman but I’m sure it will come in round 3 or deeper.

Like the pick. Cody will be a great addition to the Broncos WR core. He’s also got great character. Something a few of the other Broncos need to improve on! Former B1G 10 standout will love moving to and living in Denver.

I agree horrible front office, did they really think signing 3 premier defensive free agents and drafting a CB in the first round is going to do anything to improve the defense?

  18. jjackwagon says: May 9, 2014 9:59 PM

Vermiel has already tried that whole “All Offense..ignore the Defense” thing in KC. They didn’t win a SB that way and Denver won’t either

  19. nflpropickemking says: May 9, 2014 10:19 PM

Notice that the “Choker” is no longer on Papa Johns commercials?

Lots of people acting like this is Decker’s replacement. Just watched a college highlight video of his and think this fella is a huge upgrade. Did not see many IU games but, super strong for a WR, velcro hands, and willingness to block makes me all in. Welcome to Denver Cody; our best advice for you is to set up a tent in 18’s front yard. Bye Bye Bubba!

cue packer fans who say only the guys they pick are any good

  22. dubblelznhell says: May 9, 2014 10:48 PM

Man. How you people continually shoot down Peyton when he’s been to 3 super bowls and won one. How many have any of you been to? Elway lost his first three superbowls, remember?

  23. riverhorsey says: May 9, 2014 11:14 PM

hard to believe Denver drafted this guy after signing Sanders

  24. ptfpoetlovestheseahawks says: May 10, 2014 1:16 AM

Isn’t that what everyone that’s a Broncos fan was saying before SB 48? Hmmmm de ja vu man. Mister Latimer, meet Earl, Richard, and Kam.

  25. bronx77 says: May 10, 2014 2:32 AM

I think the plan is to let him learn this year and bring him on slow and then next year welker is gone and you have Thomas and him outside and slide sanders in the slot

  26. milehighmariwano says: May 10, 2014 4:23 AM

I think Christian Jones Telvr Avery Williamson for that LB pick in the 4th

  27. broncostevenp says: May 10, 2014 8:29 AM

Why you take this guy when Borland is still on the board is beyond me. We still don’t have a MLB worth a damn.
