Seahawks beef up pass rush with Cassius Marsh

For the last several years, plenty of tentacles have extended between the Vikings and the Seahawks.  The latest connection could end up being one of the most intriguing.

With the ninth pick in the first round, the Vikings took UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr.  With the fourth-round pick obtained by the Vikings when Minnesota traded back to the bottom of the first round for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, the Seahawks took UCLA defensive end Cassius Marsh.

In connection with our position-by-position previews on NBCSN’s Pro Football Talk, a seasoned and respected NFL scout told me that Barr is regarded as the most overrated pass rusher in the class — and that Marsh is regarded as the most underrated pass rusher.

From that point, an apples-to-apples comparison became inevitable for the two players.  The fact that one plays for the Vikings and the other was drafted with a pick sent by the Vikings to the Seahawks makes the situation even more compelling.

At least for us.  The rest of you may not care.  If so, scroll down to the next story.

  1. Seahawks / Vikings, Vikings / Seahawks. Something almost weird here since Steve Hutchinson.

  2. Barr can go to Seattles triple A farm team (aka Vikings) and develop. Once he is ready to then he will join the Seahawks and play with another nfl starter from UCLA. Having MN in our hip pocket is fun! Its ok to join the Hawk Nation since youre shipwrecked as a franchise!

  3. i just saw game film of stevie johnson vs richard sherman. oh boy does stevie johnson make richard sherman look silly.

  4. Exactly why the Vikes are perennial cellar dwellers and the Hawks are a dynasty in the happening.

  5. Since I don’t know anything about either player, I can’t legitimately comment about them. But I have seen the results of Pete Carroll’s coaching abilities both with USC and the Hawks. That fills me with optimism for Marsh’s future contributions to the Seahawks’ war machine.

  6. I am confused, what players have the Vikings developed into star players for the Seahawks? Jackson? Rice? Winfield? Harvin?

Why do Seattle fans on here equate the Minnesota with the KC A’s and Yankee relationship from the 50s/60s.

  7. Seattle is generally at the “octopus” end of the tentacles between the two organizations, while the Vikings play the “hapless clam or fish” role.

Meanwhile, Green Bay is more a bearded clam…

  9. Actually the Hawks beat Buffalo 50-17…you’re thinking the AZ blowout 58-0. But who’s counting lol

  10. Hit man , is that the game the bills lost by fifty-something points? So many blowouts last couple years hard to keep track of the scores

  11. Vikings drafted Barr as a raw talent with only 2 years experience as a OLB with huge upside and elite measurables.

Zimmer will develop Barr into a SLB ala Von Miller.

Marsh doesn’t have the measurables to be that good.

  12. To the best of my knowledge, one player that switched teams lived up to expectations and became a perennial Pro Bowl player, and that was Hutchinson. So tell me again how this “farm team” thing came about…. I understand that you are all soooo proud of the unparalleled success that Burleson, Rice, Jackson, and Harvin have had in Seattle, but I still don’t understand this.

Other than perhaps Seattle fans are the equivalent of the obnoxious drunk sitting at the poker table that is actually winning a few hands for the first time in his life…..

  13. Given Seattle’s track record finding gems in the later rounds, it’s probably a pretty safe bet that Marsh turns out better than Barr. Plus he gets to join one of the best defenses in the league. Barr joins the worst. Sad for him and Bridgewater. Nobody deserves to be stuck on that minor league team.

  14. Minnesotta is a model franchise they are the owner of multiple superbowl titles. Just writing that made me laugh, they draft a quarterback who has to wear gloves to be good oh please can we say bust

  15. brew – Viking fans actually beat out Seattle fans for obnoxious – and at least Seattle fans have something to gloat about.

Just waiting for that next non-sense statement from a Viking fan talking about delusions of grandeur – SKOL

  16. Liked that Seattle got Norwood out of Bama. Norwood was a great pickup and should be good in the seattle system that doesnt rely on so much verticle offense.
