The Browns cleared some room for undrafted free agents on Monday by releasing five players, including quarterbacks Vince Young and Alex Tanney.

The arrival of Johnny Manziel in the first round may have hastened their departure, but it didn’t stop the Browns from including another signal caller among the 11 undrafted free agents whose signings were announced on Monday.

Former South Carolina starter Connor Shaw is the new quarterback in Cleveland. Shaw went undrafted after starting 32 games for Steve Spurrier, but did take some visits during the pre-draft process. He’s a bit undersized and struggled with injuries during his collegiate days, but could wind up earning the job as the third quarterback over Tyler Thigpen if the Browns aren’t worried about having two rookies at the position. If not, the practice squad is also a possibility.

The Browns also announced the signings of Southern Illinois fullback Ray Agnew, Oklahoma State defensive lineman Calvin Barnett, West Virginia defensive back Darwin Cook, running back Isaiah Crowell, offensive lineman Anthony Dima, San Jose State wide receiver Chandler Jones, Vanderbilt wide receiver Jonathan Krause, Oregon State offensive lineman Michael Philipp, Florida State wide receiver Kenny Shaw and Ball State wide receiver Willie Snead.
