The Giants announced the signing of five undrafted free agents on Monday, a group that includes a member of the 2013 All-SEC Coaches Team.

South Carolina defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles, who notched 9.5 sacks in 2013, is among the Giants’ post-draft rookie additions. Also signed were Louisiana-Lafayette linebacker Justin Anderson, Michigan safety Thomas Gordon, BYU defensive tackle Eathyn Manumaleuna and Richmond defensive end Jerry Wynn.

The Giants also released four players, including backup quarterback Rusty Smith. The club also said it had waived linebacker Allen Bradford, punter Jordan Gay and cornerback Junior Mertile.

With Smith released, the Giants have four quarterbacks: Eli Manning, Ryan Nassib, Curtis Painter and Josh Freeman.

Surprised they drafted Beckham. They could have had Aaron Donald + Martavis Bryant + more in place of Bromley + Beckham. I think they took the weaker deal.

So let me get this straight,,,Clowney notches 3 sacks last year and goes number 1. Quarles notches 9.5 sacks and goes undrafted. Do actual tangible results matter anymore?

Gee whiz, you’re telling me Curtis Painter is still in the NFL?

    Next is Freeman!

Um maybe Quarles got his 9.5 sacks due to the fact that the another certain teammate of his was consistently double and triple teamed???

But hey why watch what actually happened when you can just speculate?

Morningstar…I watched Clowney a lot last year. He was rarely triple teamed and hardly ever double teamed for that matter. He just has zero pass rushing moves and gives up early when beat.

Eli Manning averages 19 int a year over the last 5 years.

And still no Tight End. Ugh, realy starting to question Jerry Reese. He really better hope the 3rd year Robinson can stay healthy, and finally learned how to block. Was gonna say he should’ve learned the playbook by now, but oh yeah, new offensive cordinator = new playbook. So that tells me if this dude is a slow learner then we’re screwed at that position. Might as well bring back Myers on a 1 year contract. Smh, guess we’ll see. I know one thing, it’s playoffs or bust for Eli, Tom Coughlin, and Reese, which usually means that’s when they are at their best, but our defense line is nowhere near as good as it was in 2007 and 2011. We’ll see

Wasn’t Quarles supposed to be a 2nd or 3rd round pick? How did that happen?

I wish everyone would stop the Eli bashing! The topic is about the release of four players, not about Eli. Leave him alone.

It clearly has to do with the name. Clowney just sounds better than Quarles…. NOT!!!

Nice addition, he may just be one of those undrafted picks that ultimately surprises. The Gmen have a knack for finding these gems.
