The Lions signed 11 undrafted free agents on Monday, the club said on its website.

Missouri quarterback James Franklin is among the Lions’ rookie signees. Franklin threw for 2,429 yards in 2013, completing 62.1 percent of his attempts while throwing 19 touchdowns and six interceptions.

In addition to Franklin, the Lions signed these rookie free agents: Florida State fullback Chad Abram, Tennessee offensive guard Alex Bullard, William and Mary safety Jerome Couplin, Wake Forest linebacker Justin Jackson, Kansas State offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas, Oklahoma safety Gabe Lynn, Louisiana-Lafayette tight end Jacob Maxwell, Old Dominion offensive guard D.J. Morrell, Appalachian State wide receiver Andrew Peacock and Nebraska cornerback Mohammed Selsay.

The Lions also announced they had released eight players, including wide receiver Carlin Isles, a professional rugby player. Also released were center Sherman Carter, linebacker Jon Morgan, cornerback Nate Ness, safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, kicker John Potter, tight end Matt Veldman and wide receiver Cody Wilson.

I haven’t seen much of Franklin but his game seems to be a little bit like Russell Wilson…at least from the little I have seen. If Stafford were to get injured…hopefully not…I would like to see what Franklin has.

Not sure I understand what is happening in that picture. Is a snake biting him on the ankle?

Two undrafted free agents on our team last year made big contributions and would make most rosters in the league easily as of right now… joe fauria and la’adrian waddle. So im all for the UDFAs. See what they got. Not much different from a 7th rounder.

Kansas State offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas got a 20K signing bonus from the Lions.
Six feet, NINE inches tall, 328 pounds. Wow. They must expect good things from him.

Lucas is a mountain of a guy….6’9″ and change, 325….if he can continue to improve like he has the last 2 years he could be the next Waddle or Fauria that Mayhew has plucked from the UDFA pool to be come a productive NFL player….

Kind of strange that people are passing judgement on teams based on players who are essentially glorified walk-ons.

Best of luck to the eight who were let go. It’s a good time to be looking for work with another team.

I don’t understand why they didn’t go after free agent DB Marcus Roberson out of Florida. He was a potential 1st round pick that fell out of the draft because he didn’t interview well and said some things that teams didn’t like. I mean hey, sign him undrafted, and give him a shot. The worst they can do is release him and we need DB help and depth anyway. These are the things that bug me when it comes to the Lions. Now St. Louis signed him and could possibly hit on something for nothing….smh
