Pete Carroll: Kam Chancellor should be ready for training camp

After the issues wide receiver Percy Harvin encountered trying to get on the playing field last fall after surgery in August, “hip surgery” should be a four-letter word to the Seattle Seahawks.

Pro Bowl safety Kam Chancellor has had hip problems for the past couple seasons and finally required surgery to correct the issue this offseason. Chancellor underwent surgery just over a month ago to finally address the problems.

Unlike Harvin, however, Chancellor is already well ahead of schedule in his recovery. Head coach Pete Carroll said Chancellor is expected to be ready to go in plenty of time for the start of training camp in July.

“Kam’s making great progress, [the doctors] think he’s going to be back in plenty of time to be ready for camp and all that,” Carroll said.

“Really glad we could get a chance to fix him. He’s been dealing with a hip thing for a while. So, he should be in great shape. There have been no problems, everything is well ahead of schedule, and we’re counting on him being with us throughout.”

Chancellor was a second-team All-Pro selection in 2013 and earned his second trip to the Pro Bowl. Chancellor racked up 99 tackles, three interceptions and a forced fumble for Seattle last season. He easily could have been named Super Bowl MVP as well after posting 10 tackles and an interception in the team’s 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos.

Think what he’ll hit like at full speed. LOL

Best SS in the game. Delivers linebacker blows but is still great in coverage, and his hits don’t get flagged as often as others.

Even our #5th, #6th, #7th and #8th rated defensive backs, EACH > the number one DB starter for the lowly Minnesota Vikings!

    SKOL! Sad Kulture Of Losing!

Kam Chancellor is a true beast and the best SS in football. He can put a clean hit in any game and it sets the tone, he is always in the box blowing up run plays.

Pete says he is going to be good to go there is no doubt about it. They have been very conservative with players with injury trusting in their depth. I just watched videos of our late round pick Eric Pinkins and I honestly couldn’t tell you if he is more Brandon Browner or Kam Chancellor. Get healthy Bam Bam.

Vernon Davis was finally sleeping at night…. #bambamkam

    Hardest thumper in the NFL.

  10. allidoiswin55 says: May 12, 2014 11:54 PM

He had a partial tear he’s been playing with for years . Of course he’ll be ready it’s not a minor surgery but it is relatively minor considering it’s only a small repair .

Seattle wasn’t healthy in the Superbowl.

Kam playing hurt, Rice out, Russ playing with turf toe…

Wonder how good we’ll be healthy.

He’ll be ready to light up Vernon and Stevie…….book it!

Also unlike Percy and many whiny players in the league Kam plays like a man and takes the pain….. All while performing like an all pro, the guy is a boss plain and simple and a key reason the hawks are so dang good.

  14. kuranda84 says: May 13, 2014 12:10 AM

We love you Kam! Get well soon, buddy!

violent hits metted out by Kam are sure to take a toll. Lets hope for a quick heal and Bam Bam to be fit and 100% for at least 12 regular season games. If he misses 2-4 games we win those with the total team base, no worries.

Not a Seattle fan but I am kind of excited to see how Harvin does this year…assuming he stays on the field.

The man is a stud and nearly as valuable as Sherman, Thomas, Wilson and Lynch. At some point we won’t be able to afford him and that will be a sad day.

  19. jerjaxon says: May 13, 2014 1:58 AM

Probably should have been SB MVP. Dude was killin it.

  20. whodat5150 says: May 13, 2014 2:25 AM

Kam did a heck of a job against Jimmy Graham in the playoffs without having to hold, unlike that “best corner in the game”, Richard Sherman. Sherman is good but if he was as great as he believes he is, why does he hold so much?

  21. brownsmakemecrazy says: May 13, 2014 5:15 AM

Thats good news. Hate seeing the best players in the league missing games due to injuries. Takes away the level of play and competitiveness on the field

  22. wisespeakersays says: May 13, 2014 6:02 AM

Cowboys have 5 Super Bowls and the cheating Seahawks only have 1! We are GOD’s chosen team, and we will have a dynasty this year! I’m so glad I’m a fan of the best team in the world!

  23. sambaughslingers says: May 13, 2014 8:31 AM

Still makes me happy to see that the hard hitting safety position still is as valuable as ever in this pass happy, safety first NFL

  24. rainponcho87 says: May 13, 2014 9:11 AM

Pete Carroll is such an upbeat, superpositive guy, it can be hard to know exactly what the situation is. If you look back at his Percy comments through last year, he was very optimistic at every point.

  25. mrwalterisgod says: May 13, 2014 9:15 AM

Michael Crabtree and Boldin will suddenly have undisclosed “injuries”

  26. andreboy1 says: May 13, 2014 9:45 AM

49ers will win the division this year. refs robbed us last year with that bs call on drew brees. that game cost us the division.

  34. hatejerrah says: May 13, 2014 1:17 PM

He’ll be ready for the season, and will open a Kam of whoopa$$$, like always!

  35. juliusanonymous says: May 13, 2014 1:19 PM

Kam is a beast, injured or not.

Stevie Johnson should be worried. He’s not in the AFC East anymore, where secondaries are old, small and basically an after-thought. His first hit from Kam, he’s going to be laying on the ground, trying to remember his name and what year it is, with trainers sticking smelling salts in his nose and asking him who is the current president. Get used to it, boy. Vernon Davis has been KO’d twice by Kam, on legal hits.

It’s gotta suck to be a WR on any other team, knowing you have to face this guy. He doesn’t just hit people, he breaks their will.

  36. Go-Hawks! says: May 13, 2014 1:52 PM

    He breaks their will.

Pete says “No problem — a few of the right pills, and he’ll be as good as ever”

  39. rdubluv12 says: May 13, 2014 6:24 PM

A 49er fan whining about being robbed by the refs?!? Ya don’t say! Your mediocre QB lost you the divison…oh and the Hawks being the better team didn’t help you much either. Get used to it because that’s not changing anytime soon.
