Chris Johnson buys Jets’ No. 21 jersey from Ellis Lankster

Michael Vick isn’t the only new Jet picking a new number.

Vick, who previously wore No. 7, originally said he’d wear No. 8 with the Jets, then changed his mind and picked No. 1. Now running back Chris Johnson has settled on No. 21.

Johnson’s number in Tennessee, 28, is unavailable in New York: The Jets retired it for Curtis Martin. So Johnson chose 21 instead, although that number wasn’t available either because Ellis Lankster was wearing it. Lankster confirmed on Twitter that Johnson had paid him for it, although he didn’t say how much.

“Can’t say no to money, who would?” Lankster wrote. Lankster will now change to No. 31, previously worn by Antonio Cromartie.

Rich athlete problems: I want that number 21, I’ll give you thousands.

Real world problems: how can I feed my family for 21 days, I wish I had thousands.

As Patrick Ewing once eloquently said. “”Sure we make a lot of money, but we spend a lot, too.”

Be as good at anything as Chris Johnson is at football and you won’t have to worry about feeding your kids.

Bet the IRS wants to know how much he paid for the number.. Think CJ will write that off as a biz expense?

As a Titans fan, I can say that #21 will suite CJ just fine in New York. He likes to wear his YPC average.

    With Titans, it was 2.8
    New York will be 2.1

Can’t believe Ellis Lankster carved out a spot on the Jets. I liked him with the Bills, but the kid just didn’t have it.

And he got killed for his stuttering problem…which he handled very well in his first interview. (I felt horrible for him, especially when he started getting killed for it in the media and online.)

Excellent reportage. I look forward to an exciting follow up article.

    Ellis is the man. Period.
