The Chiefs have signed an offensive lineman selected in both the Canadian Football League and National Football League drafts.

The club has reached a four-year deal with Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, the Chiefs’ second of two sixth-round picks (No. 200 overall).

A standout tackle at McGill University in Montreal, the 6-foot-5, 315-pound Duvernay-Tardif took part in the 2014 East-West Shrine Game.

“It was very surprising how big and athletic he was, and he was physical,” Chiefs area scout Pat Sperduto said of Duvernay-Tardif’s performance at the Shrine game, according to the club’s website. “He really just surprised us at how good of an athlete he was for such a big man.”

Four days after Duvernay-Tardif was selected by the Chiefs, the Calgary Stampeders took him with the first pick of the third round in Wednesday’s CFL draft. He was rated the league’s top prospect by the CFL’s Scouting Bureau.
