It’s still been less than a week since the 2014 NFL draft began, but plenty of the players picked have reached agreements on their mandatory four-year deals.

The latest (although there’s a chance someone else signs by the time I finish this) is Colts tackle Ulrick John.  A seventh-round pick from Georgia State, he started in college at left tackle, center, and guard.

John was the last of Indy’s five-man draft class.  He joins second-rounder Jack Mewhort as the team’s newest tackles.

  1. He will most likely be a backup @ Guard or be a Utility OLman.

Castonzo (LT) / Mewhort (G) / Holmes (C) / Thomas (G) / Cherilus (RT) is the potential OLine, imo.

Donald Thomas was a decent acquisition last year before injury derailed his 2013 season and ultimately hurt the interior OL. Hugh Thorton is another possible G candidate.

The loss of Allen as a blocking TE hurt as well. He’s back and claims he’s 100% which could be huge for Fleener’s development too.

Better blocking TEs on the outside, bigger RB group for backfield protection, and some upgrades along the line should be a huge upgrade over last year’s makeshift unit.
