Jets sign Tajh Boyd

Five days after the conclusion of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Jets now have half of their 12 selections signed to contracts.

The latest Jets rookie to reach a deal is quarterback Tajh Boyd, whom the club announced it had signed to a four-year contract on Thursday evening.

One of the Jets’ four sixth-round picks, the 6-foot-1, 222-pound Boyd threw for 11,904 yards with 107 touchdowns and 39 interceptions in four seasons with Clemson (2010-2013). He completed 64.3 percent of his passes (901-of-1,402).

With Michael Vick and Geno Smith the Jets’ top two quarterbacks, Boyd will contend with Matt Simms for the Jets’ No. 3 role on the depth chart.

In addition to Boyd, the Jets have signed five other picks: offensive guard Dakota Dozier (Round Four), linebacker Jeremiah George (Round Five), wide receiver Quincy Enunwa (Round Six), linebacker IK Enemkpali (Round Six) and linebacker Trevor Reilly (Round Seven).

Nice value I was hoping he would slip to the Lions’ next pick since we need a good QB value more than any team in the league.

Geno Smith will be out of the league within 2 yrs. He sucks and will never be an NFL-worthy QB. Maybe he and Tebow can go to church and play golf together.

This guy from Clemson is FOR REAL! Once Geno and Vick cancel each other out, Boyd is the one who will deliver! Give it about 2-3 yrs when transformation of QB’s will take place. Boyd will deliver, I promise ya!

Wasn’t this guy supposed to be a 1st round prospect only a few months ago? What happened?

    Good Job, Jets

Who’s to say that Boyd won’t eventually become as good or better than Smith? What will hold him back is that he won’t get the opportunity to get the 1st team reps that Smith will get. I would be very interested to see what would happen if they both got an equal opportunity in practice.

    He stinks.

He might be a number three. If they carry three.
Or he’ll get grabbed off waivers before the season.
Either way, he’ll be standing on some team’s sideline.

Taj Boyd may be better than Geno Smith.

I’m not a Jets fan but Boyd has potential. Watkins & Hopkins didn’t throw the ball to themselves. Vick gets injured a lot, Geno sucks and is not a leader, & Simms is only sticking around because of Daddy’s name. Boyd is the luckiest late round QB.

And just think Boyd was being discussed as a 1st round pick last year.

you can never have enough QBs that can’t process information and read defenses quickly

This guy rubbed me the wrong way on the Gruden camp episode. Everything Gruden said was followed by a “man you crazy” smile and excuses.

He’s uber talented but it’s not hard to tell why he never seemed to progress at Clemson. Can’t say NYJ is a place I’d expect a QB to progress either.

I’m excited to see this guy in the preseason (that is if any Jets preseason games are televised). Boyd could really sling the ball around at Clemson. He’s a tad bit short with some mechanical inconsistencies, but you’d think that could be fixed. College numbers were outstanding.
