Raiders sign Khalil Mack

khalilmack AP

In the clearest sign so far this season that the days of protracted rookie negotiations are part of the distant past, Khalil Mack’s rookie deal is already done.

The Raiders signed Mack today, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Mack was the fifth overall pick in the draft and is the highest-drafted player to sign so far.

The new Collective Bargaining Agreement pre-determines rookies’ contract, meaning there’s not much of anything to negotiate anything at all. So it’s no surprise that Mack got his deal done quickly.

Now Mack will get to work in Oakland, where he’s expected to be a starting linebacker from Day One.

He’s gonna be a BEAST…when he leaves for another team when he gets tired of losing 13 games every year. Tough to be good on D when there is NO talent around you.

The Raider haters are out in full force. Mack is a stud. Hayden will be good after his “red-shirt” year. Justin Ellis in the 4th round was a solid pick-up. Tuck, Woodley have plenty left and Sio Moore and Nick Roach are solid. The Raiders have a chance to have a top 10 defense.

  16. jackburton77 says: May 15, 2014 3:42 PM

His confused look, in the attached picture, will last as long as he’s in Oakland.

    The Raiders are total suckage.

Arguably the best player in the draft and the safest pick, he is an NFL caliber startign LB either inside or out from day 1. Haters gonna hate? They will really hate this guy because there’s a good chance he is the Defensive Rookie of the Year. Nice.

Kyle Van Noy will end up being what Mack was said to be. Mack will be a great player too, but Van Noy will be a big shock to a lot of people when they compare the two.

  29. demolition510 says: May 15, 2014 4:28 PM

Y’all hate the Raiders more than you like your own team. Kinda sad really.

  30. kosarkid says: May 15, 2014 4:28 PM

I’ll be rooting for this guy just because of his story of how he got to the league.

  31. albigverg says: May 15, 2014 4:29 PM

Mack is a beast on the field, but more importatly he is a hardworking blue collar type of guy. He’ couldnt be more different than McClain.. Humble hard working underdog. Solid draft by the overall by the Raiders.

  32. thegreatgabbert says: May 15, 2014 4:33 PM

Hopefully his middle name starts with an “S”, so he can be Khalil S Mack.

  36. pooflingingmonkey says: May 15, 2014 4:41 PM

If recent history is any indication, Mack will bust. It’s not his fault… it’s the Raiders!

  37. jmethane says: May 15, 2014 4:42 PM

Man I can’t help but think of Aaron Curry and how we took him with the 4th pick after KC didn’t take him with 3.

Awesome, raw talent but unpolished. He was supposed to be amazing. The only “cant miss” prospect blah blah blah…

What is crazy is that even though he was a bust I an very happy we took him because we were going to take that Mark Sanchez instead

  38. gilperreault says: May 15, 2014 4:47 PM

  39. thetooloftools says: May 15, 2014 4:48 PM

Good job rookie. Time to work.

  41. justintuckrule says: May 15, 2014 4:54 PM

Raiders are my dark horse team to go worst to first (as there’s always one). This is it for Peyton. The arm is dead. Rivers, feh. KC…wins one year goes 5-11 the next.

Raiders built a nice little team led by my man, 2x SB Champ, Justin Tuck.

The league is better when the Raiders are good. I hope they make some noise.

  42. aldavis4president says: May 15, 2014 4:59 PM

Everyone was getting sacks last year before the injures, Dennis Allen really knows his defense. MACK, Tuck, Smith, Moore, and Woodley will terrorize the afc west “competition”. Oh yeah, and cwood and tyvone roaming the field. Yup we’re in good shape my nation!! #RAIDERNATION

to dizzale34, no one wants to go to Oakland. Just b/c he signed his contract doesn’t mean he loves Oakland means he wants to get paid.

Khalil Mack > All Vikings LBs

  47. keithdylan says: May 15, 2014 5:26 PM

Everyone who says they have nothing around him has not seen who they’ve signed in the off season, forget Hayden really didn’t play, and forget their best safety, Branch, played one game last year. Plus after their first meeting, Alex Smith said what they were doing on defense really confused him. I’ll let the Chiefs fans decide if confusing Smith is difficult or not. Not saying it’s a Ravens like D, but it’s not “nothing.”

  48. nflofficeadmin says: May 15, 2014 5:36 PM

  49. tformation says: May 15, 2014 5:38 PM

Should be a good player, certainly a good draft pick at 5.

The team may well struggle again next year, however they should be much more competitive in games. Another good offseason and they should begin to truly see the fruit of the last few years’ rebuilding efforts.

Year one of the Reconstruction is off to a great start thanks to #SilverAndMack, who Mike Mayock had as the best overall play in the draft. The Raiders will field a much more competitive defense this year, and an improved power running game. Should be more fun to watch than the last two Deconstruction season. I don’t need to win the Super Bowl this year or anything – let’s just get the team going in the right direction, yeah? This is a good first start.

Raider fans and their over optimism and abundant ignorance are as clueless as they are annoying. You’d think that like 110 years w/out a winning season or whatever the streak is, they’d think about crawling before running.

The Raiders D showed a lot of promise at the beginning of the season last year. Not surexwhy it collapsed again, but with this promising young player and a healthy Branch among others, hopefully they get it tirned around again.
