Chiefs sign De’Anthony Thomas

De'Anthony Thomas AP

De’Anthony Thomas made a lot of big plays for Oregon and he’ll be trying to keep that up in the NFL after being selected in the fourth round by the Chiefs.

Before Thomas can break anything open, though, he needs to have a signed contract. He and the Chiefs have taken care of that with the team announcing on Friday afternoon that Thomas has agreed on a four-year contract with the team.

Thomas scored 46 touchdowns as a Duck, with 26 coming as a runner and 15 as a receiver. He also scored on punt and kick returns, which should make him a good replacement for Dexter McCluster in the return game. He’ll also likely take a good number of McCluster’s offensive snaps and could see even more action given the lack of strong receiving options behind Dwayne Bowe.

With Thomas in the fold, the Chiefs have only first-round linebacker Dee Ford and fifth-round quarterback Aaron Murray left to sign from their 2014 draft class.

So much speed on that offense. Should be another good year followed by a typical Andy playoff collapse.

    He’ll be scary to watch.

    Scary because he’s fast.
    Scary because he’s so small.

Hope he doesn’t end up like Jahvid Best.

I see lots of short fields for Alex and company. Or ST TDs. Beware the black mamba!!!

Too bad they don’t want to use him as a CB. He would dominate from that position rather than just being an occasional offensive weapon. He could even still be a return man as a CB!

He’ll do just as well as Steve Slaton, Lamichael James, Jacquizz Rogers and other tiny running backs. Too bad. They can’t all be Darren Sproles.

Smart pick. He and Dexter McCluster are basically the same player so the Chiefs won’t miss a beat on that front. I don’t see a long career for him due to his size but he will be fun to watch while it lasts.

DAT can contribute on kick returns immediately and if they use him right in the offense, he can be very explosive. Good pick.
