Colts get top pick Jack Mewhort under contract

AP

The Colts didn’t have to worry about signing a first-round pick, so getting their top pick under contract was much easier.

The team announced they had signed Ohio State tackle Jack Mewhort, their second-round pick.

Mewhort will have a chance to create space for running back Trent Richardson, the reason they didn’t have a first-rounder this year.

A tackle from Ohio State, Mewhort projects inside to guard and has a chance to be an immediate starter for the Colts, who have a number of issues along the offensive line.

  1. Actually, with the return of at least two OG’s from injury and the addition of one more in the draft to pair with the rookie who started last year, the only place on the OL where there’s a question mark is at Center.

  2. I actually think our line will be decent this year. Castonzo and cheilus graded out as two of the best tackles last year. We have Donald Thomas coming back from injury and Thornton is progressing. I love the addition of Mewhort because he can play a number of positions on the line. If everyone stays healthy there’s no reason to think our line won’t be pretty good. At the very least its certainly better than these last two years

  3. Mewhort was drafted to play guard so Im guessing he wont need to block Watt and furthermore it didnt matter who we had blocking Watt last year since it resulted in 2 Colt victories. As for Clowney he has the work ethic of Jamarcus Russell. So to summarize enjoy your 2 losses to the Colts in 2014.
