Cowboys rookie missing minicamp for good reason

Demarcus Lawrence, Quinn Kaehler AP

The Cowboys couldn’t wait to draft Demarcus Lawrence, but they’re going to have to wait to see him.

According to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com, the Cowboys’ second-round pick is going to miss the first day of this weekend’s rookie minicamp so he can be there for the birth of his son.

The Cowboys gave up their second- and third-round picks to take Lawrence with the 34th overall pick, thinking there was a significant drop-off between him and the next tier of pass-rushers.

And while time for offseason work is short, there’s nothing happening in Dallas this weekend that will be bigger for Lawrence than what he’s about to experience.

Good to see he has the stones to miss a day early in his career to make sure his life doesn’t pass him by.

Congrats kid, gonna be the best day of his life. Then he needs to show up and work hard. I think he could be all-pro with Marinelli running the D

The DID NOT “give up” theier second round pick. They TRADED 2nd with Washington and gave up their 3.
