Seahawks sign three rookies, including Jimmy Staten

The Seahawks, like numerous other clubs, aren’t waiting long to start signing draft picks.

The club said Friday it had signed three drafted rookies to contracts: Middle Tennessee State defensive tackle Jimmy Staten (fifth round), San Diego State safety Eric Pinkins (sixth round) and Arkansas fullback Kiero Small (seventh round).

News of agreements with Pinkins and Small had previously been reported. And now, Staten joins the ranks of Seahawks selections with whom Seattle has reached a deal.

The 6-foot-3, 311-pound Staten started 35 games in his final three seasons with the Blue Raiders. As a senior, Staten played 467 snaps and recorded 30 tackles.  He will compete for snaps behind veteran tackles Tony McDaniel and Brandon Mebane in Seattle.

I wonder when they get their PED prescriptions?

Too bad Jimmy Staten isn’t a cornerback: “Staten Island.”

The most classless franchise in the league and in sports.

Welcome to the team. Unlike a draft pick for a truly hapless team like the Vikings, playing here will get you a ring.

This DT looks to fit nicely in seattles rotation. Defending the ring!

Cue some bandwagon fan who doesn’t even know who Steve Largent is claiming the Seahawks are a dynasty in the making.

All three were told they were expected to participate
    in the Seahawk “Vitamin” program.

It will be interesting to see how many rookies make the squad. I hope QB Price makes it.

I was just looking back on some draft grades for the Seahawks. 2011 has to be funny now, since 5th (Sherman), 6th (Maxwell), and 7th (M.Smith -SuperBowl MVP) make up the heart of the best defense in the NFL. Yet at the time most “specialists” gave them a D to F for a draft grade that year.

2012 is just as funny. 2013 will be known for RB Michael and TE Wilson. Now on to 2014 – more bad ratings from “pro” scouts, and more proof

Many of the current stars for the hawks i had never heard at the time of their draft or undrafted status. I can’t wait to see which of these late rounders turn into the next crop of stars. I really enjoy watching untouted college players develop into impact players in the NFL & there’s no team better at developing those players than the hawks. Damn i can’t wait for foosball with all my foosball friends!!!

    Roll Hawks Roll.

Staten actually got the call while he was sitting at graduation. They stopped the ceremony and announced the pick. Good pick from my alma mater!

Receivers Richardson and Norwood and LEO Jeffcoat stood out.

Hawks offense is going to be much more difficult to stop and they’ve done a good job filling the defense.

All you wannabes may have to wait a few years.

i suffered thru having season tickets during the ken behring era, when he almost succeeded in moving the team to cali, only to sell it at the last minute to paul allen, who wasn’t a real football fan at the time.I, like everyone else was worried about what kind of owner he would become. Now we all know, he’s the best owner anyone could ever hope for. thank you Paul Allen! GO HAWKS!!!
