Texans sign four more draft picks

Louis Nix III

The Texans finished drafting players less than a week ago and they’ve already signed seven of the 10 members of their draft class.

The latest additions to the list of signed players are third-round defensive tackle Louis Nix, sixth-round defensive end Jeoffrey Pagan, sixth-round fullback Jay Prosch and seventh-round cornerback Andre Hal. The only unsigned Texans draftees are first overall pick Jadeveon Clowney, second-round guard Xavier Su’a-Filo and tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz.

Nix was projected to go as high as the first round by some draft watchers after wrapping up his career at Notre Dame, but wound up falling to Houston in the third. It could turn out to be a good spot for him, though, as the Texans need someone to clog the middle of the line in their 3-4 scheme and Nix appears to fit the bill after doing that for the Fighting Irish.

Pagan was a somewhat surprising early entrant into the draft and then missed the combine and Alabama’s pro day because of a shoulder injury. If he’s recovered, he’ll compete for backup snaps behind J.J. Watt and Jared Crick. Prosch played against Pagan when he was at Auburn and joins Brad Smelley as the only fullbacks on Houston’s roster. Hal had six interceptions during his Vanderbilt career and will try to use special teams as a springboard to an NFL career.
