The Buccaneers have released tight end Tom Crabtree, he said on Twitter on Saturday.

In announcing his release, Crabtree thanked coach Lovie Smith and praised his teammates.

“Thank you to Lovie and the rest of the new staff for giving me a shot,” Crabtree wrote on Twitter. “That’s a great group of guys. Expect big things.”

The 28-year-old Crabtree caught four passes for 21 yards and one touchdown in seven games for the Buccaneers in 2013. According to Pro Football Focus, he played 215 snaps. Crabtree missed time with a high-ankle sprain and a torn biceps.

Crabtree has appeared in 53 NFL regular season games, catching 22 passes for 323 yards and five TDs. He played his first three seasons with Green Bay (2010-2012) before signing with Tampa Bay last March. He got his NFL start as an undrafted free agent with Kansas City in 2009.

With Crabtree’s release, Brandon Myers, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Tim Wright and Luke Stocker are the Buccaneers’ top options at tight end.
