Ted Thompson: I’m just getting started

Earlier this month, reports out of Green Bay indicated that the Packers are interested in extending coach Mike McCarthy’s contract before it expires after the 2015 season.

It was less clear whether they wanted to do the same with General Manager Ted Thompson’s deal, which ends after the 2016 draft. Thompson is 61 and there’s been some thought that might represent the end of his time in Green Bay. Thompson declined to discuss specifics about his plans for the future this weekend, but gave no indication that he’s thinking about pulling the curtain.

“I’m just getting started,” Thompson said, via the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “No, I feel pretty good.”

Thompson has been on the job in Green Bay for nearly a decade and the team has experienced a lot of success during his tenure, which makes it hard to think that they’d want to break something that’s been working. If Thompson continues to feel the same way, there may not be a new man at the helm in Green Bay for a while yet.
