Report: Arrest warrant issued for Broncos safety T.J. Ward

Seattle Seahawks v Cleveland Browns Getty Images

Just two months after he signed with the Broncos, safety T.J. Ward has been involved in an incident that has him wanted by Denver police.

CBS 4 in Denver reports that an arrest warrant was issued for Ward on Thursday in connection with an incident that took place on May 9. According to the police, that incident involved a scuffle at a nightclub that is being categorized as both an assault and disturbing the peace.

The Broncos signed Ward to a four-year, $22.5 million contract in March. His signing was one of the key moves the Broncos made in an aggressive approach to free agency this year.

Ward previously played four seasons for the Browns. Last year he started all 16 games and was chosen to his first Pro Bowl.

Peyton – in addition to your excellent QB play, we are going to need you to invest time with TJ as his nanny. He needs a good role model to keep him out of jail.

Isn’t this the second year in a row Denver gets someone that Cleveland lets go who then almost immediately has a run in with the law when he gets there?

    Suspension coming.

  47. urbusted2 says: May 22, 2014 8:41 PM

Wow! Let’s forget the innocent until proven guilty concept. There’s nothing we know right now that says Ward did anything wrong. An arrest warrant is based on probable cause only. That falls well short of any proof necessary to convict someone of a crime. The Browns let him go because of what they were looking for football wise. There were no stories regarding his conduct the entire time he was in Cleveland to my knowledge.

^^^ 2 weeks is actually the normal amount of time for a police report to make it through the channels to the district attorneys. They file warrants. Not the cops.

What do you expect when you get a free agent from the Browns.

He had been locked up in Cleveland for too many years. Of course, he will go wild when he gets out.

Is the media going to apologize to Cleveland, now? It seems like their New GM Ray Farmer knows what he’s doing. The media wanted to do nothing but bash Cleveland for years. Now, they want to come around when things are looking up. If I’m Cleveland, I’d do the bare minimum to accommodate the media.

  70. joetoronto says: May 23, 2014 4:57 AM

  74. BH says: May 23, 2014 1:00 PM

How long will the NFL owners (Roger Goodell) tolerate the constant barrage of player criminal conduct? If nothing is done, nothing will change. Obviously, fines and short suspensions are not enough to create a climate of change. True lifetime bans are the only thing that will defray the number of criminals constantly getting into trouble. It sounds like children… Very wealthy children.

  75. fearmycheese says: May 23, 2014 4:16 PM

Why can’t NFL players JUST STOP committing crimes. It’s that really too hard? Does a team’s head coach must ask the players to stay out of trouble every week?!? Smh
