An arrest warrant was issued for Broncos safety T.J. Ward on Thursday, charging him with misdemeanor assault and disturbing the peace after an incident at a strip club in Denver earlier this month.

Ward appeared in court Friday on those charges and was issued a summons in connection with the case. A $1,900 bond was set and Ward’s next court hearing is set for June 23rd.

The Denver Post reports that Ward was at a strip club on May 10 when there was a disagreement about whether or not he could bring alcohol into the club. Ward reportedly thought the management had said it was fine to do so, but a “confrontation ensued” when members of the staff questioned why he brought it with him.

Ward signed a four-year, $22.5 million deal with the Broncos as a free agent this offseason. He could be subject to league discipline under the personal conduct policy, although there’s much to play out in the legal process before that’s likely to become a possibility.
