Report: 49ers waive Luke Marquardt

The 49ers have reportedly waived an offensive lineman they carried on their non-football injury list a season ago.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, the Niners have waived offensive lineman Luke Marquardt, whom they signed as an undrafted free agent last spring.

The 6-foot-8, 315-pound Marquardt played college football at Azuza Pacific, the alma mater of former Chiefs tailback Christian Okoye. Marquardt missed his final collegiate season (2012) with a foot injury.

With Marquardt’s reported departure, the 49ers would have 89 players on the roster, one short of the 90-player limit.

UPDATE 12:44 p.m. ET: Maiocco reports Marquardt will land on injured reserve if he clears waivers.

Big dude. Unless he literally can’t walk I bet he gets a look from another team.

When are they changing that helmet to SC?

Santa Clara has much better weather than SF, great move.

75% of the NFC East play in another town … and NY teams havent even been in the same STATE in 30-40 years (depending on the team.)

Santa Clara is 45 miles from San Francisco. The Meadowlands is maybe 5 from NY. Landover is maybe 2 miles from DC. When the Patriots moved to Foxbourgh the changed the name to the New England Patriots. Santa Clara is further away from SF than Washington is from Baltimore.

They should call them the South Bay 49ers.

Lol at all you newly jumped on the bandwagon pedcawk lemmings. You will now and forever be known as the 2012’s the year you all found out the NFL had a team in Seattle. Oh the hypocrisy.
Your trying to relogo SF and finding fault but see no wrong in hijacking A&Ms 12th man as if it was originally yours .
    #pathetic
#above reproach? ( ask the runts wife)
    # welcome to the NFL newbee’s
    # catch up if you can to 5 Lombard’s

Lol Santa Clara is terrible. Straight up suburban wasteland, but I guess you can say that about most of the Bay Area.

  9. citynative says: May 24, 2014 8:52 PM

is it not called the San Francisco Bay Area?

Unlike Santa Clara, Hawks sell out regardless.

Um I think for years now the 49ers have been doing everything, except play their games, in Santa Clara. Now all of a sudden you guys are asking for a name change.

And Chicago Tomahawk wants to call the birth place of technology as we know it a suburban waste land. Please stay in the windy city and keep hoping to get to a championship game or more some time this decade. Maybe if you climb to the top of Sears Tower you can look far enough into the past to when Chicago was relevant.

Does it matter if there 2 miles or 45 miles away. There still not in the same city, its funny how everyones making a big deal about the niners playing in santa clara but a bunch of other teams dont play in the same city. As for the giants and the jets they play in a different state. get over it.

  14. 4d9erdynasty says: May 25, 2014 3:31 AM

By the way South SF is 30 miles away from Santa Clara.

What would it hurt???? Take a look at Vince Young…..
There are a lot worse QBs on NFL rosters that has never had the success Vince Young has had …(NFL Rookie of the Year, 2 Pro Bowls, Playoff experience and Mobility). Vince has a career winning record of 31-19…
He can help this team…even if it’s just upgrading the quarterback pool…

You do realize the 49ers have a sell out streak dating back to the 1970s? Meanwhile, Seahawks sell out streak dates back to 2003… aka their first 10 win season since the 1980s. Bandwagon much?
