Redskins name Bruce Allen president and G.M.

Allen

When Bruce Allen recently sent a letter to Senator Harry Reid defending the ongoing use of the team’s name, his employer identified him as “Redskins president.” I assumed I’d either missed or forgotten the announcement that Allen had a fairly important title added to his “General Manager” label.

I hadn’t. For a change.

The team announced on Monday that Allen is now officially the president and G.M.

“I think the world of Bruce Allen and giving him both titles is appropriate,” owner Dan Snyder said.

It’s unclear how, if at all, Allen’s job will change. But it’s clear that, in the wake of the failed Shanahan experiment, Allen has emerged with more power than ever.

With more power comes more accountability. Allen could be the next up for a pink slip, if the Redskins continue to stumble and sputter and otherwise be mediocre.
