Sean Lee injured during non-contact practice

With most of the league back on the field this week, comes another reminder about the essential lie of non-contact practices.

Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee was just helped off the field by trainers, according to multiple tweets from the scene, after he was blocked to the ground by rookie guard Zach Martin.

Lee was apparently quite upset as he was limping off the practice field, using some choice profanity after the injury.

When well, Lee has been among the best inside linebackers in the league. Staying that way has been a problem, however.

He missed five of the last six games last year, has missed the last two win-or-go-home regular season finales, and hasn’t played 16 games in a season yet. Yet the Cowboys gave him a seven-year, $42.6 million contract last August.

Now they have to hold their breath and hope the latest injury isn’t a serious one.

I blame it on Jerah. He always wants a circus.

  4. pftoracle says: May 27, 2014 1:54 PM

Good player, but he even gets hurt in non-contact drills. #WontMakeItAllSeason #InjuryProne

  8. cletusvandam says: May 27, 2014 1:58 PM

    Unbelievable! Is it April 1st?
So he got blown up by a rookie and is now hurt again?

  9. thepftpoet says: May 27, 2014 1:59 PM

Sean Lee & Aaron Rodgers must be 2nd cousins or something.

    They are both china dolls.

  10. thatsjustchipper says: May 27, 2014 2:02 PM

I still don’t understand how Navorro Bowman couldn’t carry this guy’s jock at Penn State and is now the best inside linebacker in the NFL.

  11. footballtalk1 says: May 27, 2014 2:04 PM

Too bad for Sean Lee hope it’s not serious. Way to Go Zach Martin! Another piece of the great wall of Dallas 2.0

  12. skinsfolife says: May 27, 2014 2:05 PM

Another injury to this guy makes him the least dependable player in the league. He is a very good linebacker, but he is NEVER healthy. He also looks like Rocky Dennis.

  13. youtubeingravenvids says: May 27, 2014 2:06 PM

On the bright side, looks like Zach Martin is a pretty powerful pickup!!!

  14. chalkruz1989 says: May 27, 2014 2:07 PM

That’s a bummer for Sean Lee and the Dallas Cowboys. There defense cannot afford to lose him.

  15. polkhigh4life says: May 27, 2014 2:08 PM

Nice QB situation Minny….Aaron Rodgers, really????

  16. raveallday says: May 27, 2014 2:08 PM

  23. kd75 says: May 27, 2014 2:12 PM

    Great block Rook…

  24. theflyingelvis says: May 27, 2014 2:12 PM

Being a Patriots fan I hate to use the comparison, but it seems like Lee is the Gronk of inside LBs. He’s an absolute stud when healthy, arguably one of the best at his position, but he gets hurt A LOT, and seemingly during big moments. Just like Gronk. I feel your pain, Cowboys fans. Lee is one of the best ILBs in the game but is constantly getting injured. IMO Gronk is the best TE in the league (when healthy), and I don’t think it’s all that close. Due to his size, speed, route running, pass catching, and VASTLY underrated blocking ability he’s the best in the game, but the guy has just been snakebit with the injuries. Lee has a lot of the same attributes but he also seems to be cursed when it comes to injuries. Hopefully for Lee, and Cowboys fans, it’s just a mild sprain or tweaked hammy.

  25. towmater69 says: May 27, 2014 2:13 PM

Ok another one that wants to get paid but doesn’t want to play . We need to get rid of all the players who dont want to play.

  26. trollaikman8 says: May 27, 2014 2:14 PM

He’s back at practice at full speed and not hindered by any injury.

  27. nygmann says: May 27, 2014 2:15 PM

And so leaves the last reliable Cowboys Defensive Player of the 2014 season!

  28. axespray says: May 27, 2014 2:15 PM

In 8 Games, Rodgers had more wins than the vikings had all last season.

  29. hogdropalogonbigd says: May 27, 2014 2:18 PM

……..aaaaaaand the Cowboys defense is now ranked 32nd. It’s all Tony Romo’s fault!

  30. jpb12 says: May 27, 2014 2:18 PM

If Jerrah drafts Johnny Football… Zach Martin doesn’t hurt Sean Lee

  31. olewize1 says: May 27, 2014 2:18 PM

Well the good news is that the new o-line rookie just bblasted one of the best inside linebackers on his ass.. he must be a beast!!!

  32. mjzaky says: May 27, 2014 2:19 PM

Hope the injury isn’t serious and that he recovers quickly. He’s such an intuitive, imposing presence at linebacker; the Dallas defense is a mess without him quarterbacking them. Wish my Giants had a MLB like him, injuries or not.

  33. burgandy2260 says: May 27, 2014 2:20 PM

And a big majority of the lucrative contract he signed is based on being on the field. He’s a great player and a great captain on the field but he’s way to injury prone. It’s too bad.

  34. omnipresentfan says: May 27, 2014 2:20 PM

    Sean Lee = Kevin Kolb.

  35. quicktaker says: May 27, 2014 2:21 PM

His excellent talent, intelligence, and heart can’t defeat physics. He is too small for the position and can’t take the physical abuse.

  36. dalfanforever says: May 27, 2014 2:24 PM

    Holy crap! It figures!!!

  37. txrawdog says: May 27, 2014 2:25 PM

Good thing we drafted a MLB…You know your Defense sucks when Saun Lee is your best player and Captain….Doesn’t matter how well you play if you can’t stay on the field

  38. jetsmmt says: May 27, 2014 2:25 PM

He is one of the better linebackers in the league, I hope he recovers before the start of the season.

  39. wallabear says: May 27, 2014 2:26 PM

Rookie adrenalin pumping, trying to impress and make the team. This could have happened during training camp — so what.

  40. camcameronsucks says: May 27, 2014 2:26 PM

this guy breaks a bone everytime he sneezes…should have picked soccer as your sport buddy

  41. floratiotime says: May 27, 2014 2:29 PM

What part of non-contact didn’t Martin understand ? The Cowboys sure can find the dumb ones.

  43. teamtillar says: May 27, 2014 2:33 PM

  47. omnipresentfan says: May 27, 2014 2:37 PM

Sean Lee is a college grad. He is very smart. Better watch out for Chip Kelly and the Eagles snatching him.

  49. politicallyincorrect says: May 27, 2014 2:38 PM

don’t wish anyone hurt.. well almost anyone… and wish nothing but the worst for Cowboys… but sorry to hear of this…. get well Sean

damn rookies and their .. gasp.. blocking

  50. thefirstsmilergrogan says: May 27, 2014 2:39 PM

as an eagle fan, i know this guy is good when there. if he’s not playing, dallas won’t be better on defense than last year.

also know there are lots of linebackers besides dan morgan who flash and then either can’t stay healthy or incur the one injury that robs them of the ability that made them special in the first place.

  51. raiderufan says: May 27, 2014 2:39 PM

On paper, this team may have the worst front 7 in the league by a wide margin….and that’s with Lee healthy.

Carter finally played a solid handful of games last year but he’s never shown that he’d be dependable injury wise. Spencer and Melton are rehabbing and not practicing and shocker of all shocks Lee got hurt day one in non-contact drills.

After those 4 it’s ugly. Really really ugly.

  52. clintblairjr says: May 27, 2014 2:42 PM

Season is over and it has not even started? Get ready to see high scoring games, bc the run game will be useless after losing this guy!

  53. cguy7 says: May 27, 2014 2:47 PM

Dallas and defense should not be,used in the same sentence… #worstever

  54. thebirdofprey2 says: May 27, 2014 2:48 PM

Like all of you I think Sean Lee is a true talent when he is on the field. But from the start of his career, he has proven consistently that he can’t stay healthy. I couldn’t believe Jerry gave him a huge contract with the injury history. Zach Martin sounds like he will help the o-line, I guess that’s a positive out of this.

  55. jredshoes says: May 27, 2014 2:48 PM

I just get done reading about the Chiefs and the hand wringing over contact at their minicamp but I didn’t see anyone get hurt. I guess Americas Team gets a different set of standards

  56. qdog112 says: May 27, 2014 2:51 PM

OK guys, is this where we say, take a painkiller and get back out there or should he wimp out?

This is a reminder that football players take heavy risks every time they step on the field.

I hope he’s not hurt bad and can return soon.

  57. claymus1 says: May 27, 2014 2:51 PM

Dat Nguyen II. Undersized mike linebackers do not hold up….Loved Lofa Tatupu….same rule applied…..

  58. footballradioshow says: May 27, 2014 2:52 PM

at least he has a full three months to get healthy. hopefully it is not that serious, but with lee’s luck it probably is

  59. davidfchandler says: May 27, 2014 2:57 PM

Maybe Romo can let him borrow one his red jerseys so that no one can touch him during practice.

  60. kidsamoa260 says: May 27, 2014 2:59 PM

Did he get racked again by Golden Tate!

  61. guachosporlife says: May 27, 2014 3:01 PM

  62. kenstabler says: May 27, 2014 3:05 PM

Just think if Sean Lee and Darren Mcfadden had a collision ? Evaporation.

Really two guys who just can not stay on the field.

  63. ccjcsr says: May 27, 2014 3:17 PM

This is getting ridiculous….non contact drills.

Atleast they protected themselves by issuing the injury laden contract to him.

  64. spytdi says: May 27, 2014 3:24 PM

Can’t hide class on this message board. It’s a shame that there are so many people who are so unsatisfied with their own lives that they take joy in watching others get injured

  71. trollhammer20 says: May 27, 2014 4:10 PM

So, will the NFL now investigate and dock the Cowboys working days for violating the non-contact rule?
