When Giants quarterback Eli Manning had ankle surgery seven weeks ago, General Manager Jerry Reese said it would put him “out of spring ball.” But it didn’t happen that way.

Manning was on the field for Organized Team Activities, and he put in a full day, according to the Giants’ website. Manning “took quite a few snaps,” the website says, and did individual drills and a lot of reps with the first-team offense. As expected, Ryan Nassib, Curtis Painter and Josh Freeman took the backup snaps behind Manning.

The news that Manning is back on the field is good news for the Giants, who are implementing new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo’s system. Manning will get a full offseason of work in the new offense.

Manning has started 151 consecutive regular-season games (plus 11 playoff games), which is the longest active streak for an NFL quarterback, and the third-longest streak in NFL history behind only Brett Favre and Peyton Manning.
