One of the players the Giants brought in to help their offensive line improve on last season’s performance won’t be able to start working with the team until training camp.

Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reports that coach Tom Coughlin said that guard John Jerry will be out until training camp while he recovers from arthroscopic surgery on his knee. Jerry signed with the Giants this offseason after his contract with the Dolphins expired and Miami showed no interest in bringing him back after he had a starring role in both their line’s 2013 struggles and Ted Wells’ report on harassment of former Dolphin Jonathan Martin.

The Giants had a first-team offensive line that featured Geoff Schwartz and Chris Snee at the two guard spots and whatever chance Jerry had of unseating one of them will take a hit from his absence during spring work. That unit also featured James Brewer at left tackle, something that will likely remain the case as long as Will Beatty is recovering from the broken leg he suffered in the 2013 regular season finale.

Coughlin said that recovery will also take until training camp and wide receiver Mario Manningham, who is recovering from a knee injury, will also miss the remainder of offseason work.
