The Lions have expressed some doubt about cornerback Chris Houston’s ability to bounce back to top form after offseason toe surgery and that doubt may be why they are checking out one of the remaining free agent veteran cornerbacks on the market.

Josh Katzenstein of the Detroit News reports that the Lions had cornerback Terrell Thomas in for a visit on Wednesday. Thomas has also visited the Raiders, Panthers and Patriots since free agency got underway and teams may be waiting until June 1 to sign the former Giant in order to avoid his inclusion in their compensatory pick equation.

Thomas returned from three torn right ACLs and missing all of the 2011 and 2012 seasons to provide solid play for the Giants last season. He played in all 16 games, starting seven times, and recorded 67 tackles and an interception in a successful comeback from such a serious run of injuries.

The Lions drafted Nevin Lawson in the fourth round to go with Houston, Chris Greenwood, Darius Slay, Rashean Mathis, Bill Bentley and Jonte Green at cornerback. Thomas’ addition would add to the depth, but the Lions will be better off if quality trumps quantity by the time the regular season gets underway.
