Tight end Jermichael Finley got some good news last week when the surgeon who performed his neck surgery gave him clearance to return to football.

That clearance is a good sign for his chances of returning to the field, but he still needs to get cleared by individual team doctors before he’ll be signed to a contract. His agent Blake Baratz told us on PFT Live that Finley had a meeting set up with a team on Friday, but didn’t reveal the team at their request.

Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that it was with the Patriots. There’s no further word on how the meeting went or what New England’s doctors might have thought about Finley’s condition.

Mike Florio speculated at the time that the team might be the Patriots, given both their preference for limiting information about their personnel intentions and space on their roster for a skilled pass catching tight end before and after Rob Gronkowski’s return from a torn ACL. PFT reported over the weekend that the Seahawks are out of the hunt for Finley while the Packers have expressed some interest in bringing him back as long as all checks out medically.
