Report: Dareus was racing teammate Jerry Hughes

Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus faces multiple charges from an alleged car-racing incident that occurred Friday.  So who was he racing?

Officially, it’s a mystery.  Unofficially, his identity is known.

According to Tim Graham of the Buffalo News, police in Hamburg, New York are investigating Bills defensive lineman Jerry Hughes for driving the car with which Dareus was racing.

Asked by reporters regarding his role in the issue on Tuesday, Hughes said, “I can’t elaborate on that.”

Coach Doug Marrone told reporters he knows the name of the suspected second driver, but Marrone declined to say any more than that.

Dareus and the Bills mutually have decided that the player won’t attend OTA workouts, but that Dareus will attend an upcoming mandatory minicamp.

  1. I think golf or bowling might be a little more appropriate as far as team building goes.

  2. Being Bills players they probably figured that by the two of them racing at least one of them would get to experience what it feels like to win.

  3. This just keeps getting better each day. They were racing to see who could be the biggest waste of a first round pick. Hughes already had a head start from his Colts days so Marcell had to floor it. Hence the crash.

  4. Just fill out your 2015 mocks now to include a WR with one of CLE’s 1st Rounders. Write it in pen and just put a set of arrows to show it could be interchangeable and you’re all set for one gimme pick.

  5. Mike , , Mike , , Mike

    We are old . . Racer X ?

1/2 the folks here . . have no clue.

  6. Thursday’s Headline: “Witnesses Say Bills Rookie WR Sammy Watkins Dropped The Flag To Start Dareus-Hughes Car Race”

  7. There are plenty of places all over the country that for a few bucks you can line up against your buddy/competitor, at a lighting tree, with green flags and checkered flags and run a quarter mile in any vehicle you choose to park your rear end in. There are no innocent bystanders, no tree or telephones poles, and no one to kill but each other (and even that is hard to do with all the safety equipment). You have to have a total disregard for others, the law, your teammates and society in general to have that access, access to the money to do it and still decide to race on public streets. Whether it is drag racing or road racing (like Summit Point) there are places open to the average guy where you can do this. Being fat, ugly and stupid is no way to go through life.

  8. The Bills just cannot seem to walk, talk, play or drive without screwing it up. There are NO veteran leaders on this team, the coaches have little control and if the reports are true that Watkins was involved in this in ANY capacity, things are way out of control with the mistake by the lake, and it isn’t even training camp yet. What a bunch of clowns!

  9. 2 guys race each other and someone comments “no veteran leadership”. Lol please. I suppose the lack of veteran leadership on the pats is why Aaron Hernandez murdered 3 (at least) people too, right?

  10. Hernandez was a problem BEFORE he was drafted…the Pats took a Chance. Dareus is from a quality college program, was highly thought of, wasn’t a problem until recently. he probably hates being drafted by a loser team with no future. Please move!!

This franchise is a total joke from top to bottom.

    Just move baby.

Listen to joe. He’s a fan of by far the worst franchise in the NFL, so he’s a bit of an expert.

  12. The Bills have done nothing in the past few seasons but sign criminals and questionable characters. Spikes, Henderson, Mike Williams, EJ Manuel, Kiko Alonso. The good news for all of us it that the team probably won’t exist after next season.

    ………………………
Lol hold on, EJ Manuel? He’s a boy scout by NFL standards.
