Lions sign Kyle Van Noy

The Lions are inching closer to having their entire draft class under contract.

The club said on its website Wednesday that it had signed second-round pick Kyle Van Noy to a four-year deal. Noy, for his part, tweeted a picture of him ostensibly signing his contract with the caption: “It’s official!!!!”

The Lions now have 7-of-8 picks signed, with first-round selection Eric Ebron the last to have yet to finalize a deal.

An outside linebacker from BYU, Van Noy could push to start as a rookie. In four collegiate seasons (2010-2013), Van Noy recorded 226 tackles, including 62 for loss. Overall, he notched 26 sacks, with 13 sacks as a junior in 2012. He also showed skill in pass coverage, breaking up 17 passes and recording seven interceptions.

Not a fan but the Lions had a very good draft. They remind me of the 49ers in that they both teams stockpiled top picks for so many bad seasons and just needed a good coach to put it all together. Can Jim Cadwell do that with this bunch? As a Packer I hope not but it would be cool for Detroit.

Van Noy is incredible. Really wanted the Raiders to get him. I predict this dude will wind up with a bronze statue in Canton one day.

Looking forward to seeing him earn his money. Watching interviews of him gives me the impression that he will be a great asset to the team. Smart, focused and tough minded. Just the type of player every team wants! Go Lions!
