Patriots sign veteran linebacker James Anderson

James Anderson AP

Veteran linebacker James Anderson has found a home in New England.

Anderson, who played last season with the Bears, signed with the Patriots today. Anderson is the kind of dependable veteran Bill Belichick likes to collect for his defense, and it’s easy to see Anderson being a good fit in New England.

Anderson was one of the outside linebackers on PFT’s All-Unemployed Team.

The 30-year-old Anderson played for the Panthers from 2006 to 2012 before signing with Chicago. He started all 16 games for the Bears last year.

To make room for Anderson on the 90-man roster, the Patriots cut receiver Mark Harrison, who signed with them as an undrafted free agent last year and ended up spending 2013 on the reserve/non-football injury list.

Good signing by the Patriots. I did want to see if Mark Harrison had anything to offer though.

The guy was pretty solid last season for the Bears. He just happened to be on a bad defense. I wonder if he’ll start instead of Jamie Collins.

Very good signing. The year before Gettleman came to Charlotte he led the team in tackles. His reward was to be cut.

He would start for the Panthers today with Davis and Kuechly. Great on the field and in the locker room.

I guess he’s lost the desire for a SB. Well then, congrats.

Mayo, Hightower, Collins and now Anderson. That front-7 is looking pretty scary.

That Belichick is a Genius! ( had any other team signed this guy laying around for over 3 months you would never have heard a peep).

Moves like this pay dividends when the injuries hit. Instead of a rookie backup, the Patriots can field a seasoned veteran.

I believe Collins is inked in not penciled as a starter

At 30 years old he’ll be great at chasing down the oppositions fullback. Perfect fit !

Now sign Dustin Keller and see you when training camp starts in July. Nothing like watching morning practice, hitting Five Guys at Patriots Place for lunch, then back for the afternoon. Gotta love Foxboro in the summer.

Really like the signing. Securing depth at the linebacker position w a very solid player. Belichick should maximize his potential in his revamped D.

Ummm…Dustin Keller can barely walk? He might be ready to go in November. Good Luck with that.
