The Browns have reached a deal with one of their third-round picks, announcing an agreement with linebacker Chris Kirksey on Thursday.

Kirksey (6-2, 235) had a pair of seasons with more than 100 tackles at the University of Iowa. As a senior, he recorded 104 stops. Overall, he notched 315 tackles in his collegiate career, with 13.5 for loss. He was the only linebacker Cleveland selected in the 2014 NFL Draft, and it’s possible he could compete for playing time as a rookie opposite Karlos Dansby at inside linebacker.

The Browns have yet to strike deals with four draft picks, including first-rounders Justin Gilbert and Johnny Manziel.

The Browns’ final day of OTAs is Friday, and their three-day mandatory minicamp runs from June 10 through June 12.

Finally…a linebacker that can wear a tight end like a suit. And I pity the running back that decides to try him head-on…

I like the way Kirksey played the weak side LB at Iowa and I think the Browns got a good one here. Capable of being a contributor on special teams right away.
