Coming within days of the suspension and release of teammate Will Hill, the four-game suspension of Giants cornerback Jayron Hosley caught some off guard.
But the Giants and Hosley have known since last year, since Hosley was appealing a failed test during the 2013 season, before dropping that appeal this week.
“This was something that went on last season and I tried to appeal it,” Hosley said, via Jordan Raanan of NJ.com. “The ball didn’t bounce my way. I’m not going to sit here, like I said before, and go over all those things. Right now it’s about dealing with the issue and moving on, and not dwelling on what happened or could have happened. I apologized to my team and am moving on.”
Hosley apologized to his teammates and the organization, though he didn’t specify what the failed test was for. Hosley reported tested positive for marijuana prior to being drafted in the third round by the Giants in the 2012 NFL Draft.
“It’s disappointing as heck as you can imagine,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. “But you have to move on. Someone else has to step up and go.”
The next person to go might be Hosley himself. Cutting Hill after his third strike should have been construed as a sign, and the Giants signed corners Walter Thurmond and Zack Bowman this offseason, so Hosley’s roster spot is far from guaranteed.
