Carl Nicks a no-go for this week’s mandatory minicamp

The Buccaneers are holding out hope that Carl Nicks might still be able to return at some point, but that point won’t be this week.

According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Nicks won’t be participating in this week’s mandatory minicamp, though he will be in attendance.

The hope remains that he’ll be ready for training camp, but since that’s six weeks away, it’s hard to be optimistic.

After signing a five-year, $47.5 million deal in 2012, Nicks has played just nine games with the Bucs. A toe injury and subsequent infection (and nerve damage) has caused his future to be very much in doubt, and they’ll have to keep waiting to see if or when he’ll return.

He is gone next year unless he makes the all pro team. I can’t imagine them paying him his current contract to play average or not even play.

Should have stayed at the Saints when we offered him the contract before free agency started! Went to the Bucs and will not play again because he got MRSA!!

I think this guy’s career may be over. He was a hell of a player with the Saints but the Bucs has pretty much been a house of horrors for him.

At this point, best you can hope for is that he’s banked a lot of his money and doesn’t have permanent, life-altering (or life-shortening) ramifications from whatever he picked up down there.

Bet you wish you stayed in New Orleans instead of whooring out for the money.

I do not know too much about whatever it is that he has but one has to wonder if this guy is not milking it.

They need to release Nicks. He is done and at best can’t be counted on at this point. As a Bucs fan I cringe as I await hearing the constant updates this summer that Nicks isn’t ready and won’t be participating in camp.

I remember when they rushed him right back on the field shortly after he got MRSY. They really ruined his career. They should have never fired the cleaning staff.

All the people bringing up MRSA, that was just a part of it. He has been free of the MRSA for awhile. It is just he has a terrible toe, they have said it will never be the same. The toe happen before the MRSA.

You’re NEVER free of MRSA, bud. It’s like herpes.. You got it forever.
